    Because the neutrality act existed the U.S. Stayed out of European wars unless provoked for a long time. The Americans were able to become a world superpower in the short time that the U.S. existed because we were not in a constant state of war like other countries around the world

    Thomas Jefferson issued the Embargo Act of 1807
    Jefferson placed the Embargo Act to stop the attacks from France and Britain on U.S. ships. The act banned U.S. ships from trading in all foreign ports. The people ignored the policy because it would have caused economic downfall. This Act would have costed America’s economy greatly. Washington passed a policy to not interfere with other nations regarding issues. This Act passed by the U.S government forbids trade with foreign nations, therefore, it is similar to Washington's policy.

    This Act, unlike the Embargo Act of 1807, didn’t forbid trading with foreign nations, but only with France and Britain. Since a lot of the U.S’s money and the economy was built on trading, they definitely did not make as much income as they could’ve. Similar to The Embargo Act, this Act stopped the trading of goods between not all foreign countries, but only France and Britain.

    Woodrow Wilson breaks Monroe Doctrine after the Zimmerman telegram was discovered and went to war against Germany. As a result of this, America started meddling in affairs in other parts of the world. This declaration is different from Washington's policies because they go directly against his idea of neutrality.

    Wilson enters the U.S. into the League of Nations
    Wilson was instrumental in entering the U.S. into the league of nations that lasted until ww2. This allowed for the early roots of the relationships that would make the modern day United Nations. This action strengthened Washinton's ideas of keeping peace by forming alliances with other countries.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Neutrality Proclamation of 1937
    Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the third neutrality proclamation in 1937. U.S. citizens were forbidden from traveling on belligerent ships, and American merchant ships were prevented from transporting arms to belligerents. Belligerent nations were allowed to use items from the US except for arms as long as they were immediately paid for and carried on non-American ships. This is different from George Washington’s policy because FDR let other nations use the U.S. items for the war.

This policy was different from George Washington’s policy because the U.S. was involved with other nations under certain conditions.

    In 1964 as part of the cold war that was happening at that time, Johnson escalated U.S. military involvement for South Vietnam in the Vietnam War. This was to help South Vietnam win the war. This is different from Washington’s policy because he would not have entered this war due to the fact that there was no direct threat to the U.S.

    George W. Bush Declares War on Terror
    September 11, 2001, America dealt with arguably its greatest tragedy. The attack on the world trade center and the attack on the Pentagon. This lead president Bush to declare a war on terrorism. This lead to a global conflict that still lasts today and sparked other wars in the middle east. This is the exact opposite of Washington’s policy because this created many conflicts with the U.S. and the Middle East as we got involved.
