Prenatal Development- Mother

  • Weeks 1-2

    Weeks 1-2
    During the first week or two, the mother is not actually considered "pregnant" yet. The OBGYN counts pregnancy 40 weeks from the start of menstruation. During this time some women may experience symptoms, while others do not.
  • Weeks 3-4

    Weeks 3-4
    At this time you will have a missed/ no period.Sometimes you can have cramps from this due to your body functioning like so each month. You can also get a more in depth test done, called an HCG test.
  • Weeks 5-6

    Weeks 5-6
    At this time you will experience symptoms such as, tender breasts, mood swings, frequent urination and morning sickness. These can be mild/severe at this time and could progress throughout the pregnancy.
  • Weeks 7-8

    Weeks 7-8
    There is no change with the mother during this time. The symptoms are the same as weeks 5-6.
  • Week 10

    Week 10
    During this time mothers will experience pregnancy acne. This is common due to the mothers hormones. The breasts may feel fuller. The mother also can gain around 2-4 pounds.
  • Week 11

    Week 11
    The symptoms are the same as week 10. There are no changes with the mother.
  • Week 12

    Week 12
    There are no changes with the mother at this time. The symptoms are the same as weeks 10-11.
  • Week 14

    Week 14
    During week 14 the mother will experience morning sickness as usual. The mothers appetite increases there is also a reduction in fatigue. Being more clumsy than usual is also normal. Dark spots on the mothers skin is occurring more as well.
  • Week 16

    Week 16
    During week 16 the symptoms are the same as week 14.
  • Weeks 18-19

    Weeks 18-19
    These two weeks consist of an enlarged abdomen area ( the baby bump ) is now showing. Symptoms are backaches, heartburn, trouble sleeping, movement from the baby.
  • Weeks 20-21

    Weeks 20-21
    The symptoms are the same as weeks 18-19.
  • Week 22

    Week 22
    During week 22 you will experience some hip, groin and abdomen pain. You may experience some shortness of breath, fast growing hair and nails and your bellybutton may start to poke out.
  • Week 24

    Week 24
    Some mothers can develop carpal tunnel due to the amount of extra blood your body is producing. The extra fluid is what can produce carpal tunnel. You may have some difficulty sleeping and gaining weight up to 10-12 pounds at this time now.
  • Weeks 28-29

    Weeks 28-29
    At this time due to your abdomen area having your baby inside, your posture can be poor due to this. Your breasts also may leak, and you will continue growing stretch marks.
  • Weeks 31-32

    Weeks 31-32
    During these weeks the mother will have some pelvic pain due to the baby and some fetal kicks can interrupt the rest of the mother. Also, some false contractions may occur. Also known as "Braxton Hicks Contractions". Symptoms can also include shortness of breath, leg cramps, along with backaches and fatigue.
  • Week 34

    Week 34
    The mother experiences the same symptoms as weeks 31-32.
  • Weeks 36-37

    Weeks 36-37
    Symptoms-
    Insomnia
    Braxton hick contractions
    decreased pressure on organs.
  • Weeks 38-40

    Weeks 38-40
    Same as weeks 36-37
  • Birth

    The baby is born.
