ovulation begins; during this time, fertility is highest, and you have the highest chance of becoming pregnant. if fertilization is successful, you may notice some spotting as opposed to a full period. -
week 3
the merged form of the egg and sperm, called a zygote, travels into the uterus and attaches to the lining, all the while dividing from one cell to two, two to four, four to eight... -
week 4
division continues (there has to be enough cells for every inch of the developing baby), and an amniotic sac develops around the zygote. attached to that, a yoke forms that will feed the embryo during the early weeks. the zygote is about the size of a grain of rice, so it may show up on an ultrasound, but it won't really look like anything recognizable. -

week 5
the formerly mass-like embryo is starting to take some form; several "tubes" create the bases of what will become the brain, spinal cord, heart, and arms and legs. at this time, some of the symptoms of pregnancy may begin to surface, like morning sickness or the urge to urinate frequently. -
week 6
the embryo's tiny heart is just starting to beat; the embryo is also starting to develop its eyes and eyelids, along with lungs and a digestive tract. the embryo is about 1/2 inch long, and is about as wide as a pencil eraser. -
week 7
at this time, all the organs are forming their beginnings, though they're far from function or completion; the limbs are also beginning to sprout tiny "buds" on the ends to form fingers and toes later. the umbilical cord has also formed and attached at this time. -
week 8
the bean-sized embryo is now officially called a fetus! facial features are starting to become noticable, and the body is starting to straighten out. development will be even more rapid from here on out. fun bonus: if you didn't have morning sickness or tiredness before, you sure do by now. -

Tissue that will become bone also develops around your baby's head and within his or her arms and legs. -
week 9
the fetus now weighs just more than a penny; the tail it had in its previous stages is almost gone, and its legs are more defined now. it looks quite awkward, especially with its head still taking up most of its body size, but its sex organs have been decided (though they're not well developed enough to tell you your baby's sex) and it may move from time to time. -
week 10
the fetus's "tail" is now entirely gone, as well as the webbing between its tiny fingers and toes. the profile of the face is very well developed now as well, and its eyelids are almost ready to close for a while. its brain is also beginning to form neural connections to help it later in life. -
week 11
the fetus is now two inches long, though half of that length is the head. its fingernails and the irises of its eyes are developing, and it is now moving around quite frequently, though its movements are still too small to be felt. -
week 12
on the surface, the fetus now looks like a fully formed (and disproportional) human being, while beneath its thin skin its organs are continuing to develop. it now also has fully formed teeth. the mother may have put on 2-5 lbs. by now as well. -
weeks 13-16
Fifteen weeks into your pregnancy, or 14 weeks after conception, yourbaby is growing rapidly/ Your baby's skeleton is developing bones. -

As of now, your baby’s head is fully developed. The baby will now start to react to sounds, and will even move to rhythm and music. Your baby will also start to have patterns of waking up. -

Now the baby is 2 pounds which weighs about the same as a quart of milk. Eyes have opened and reveals bluish colored eye, which may actually change. -

Mom, You will be starting to put on about 1 pound per week now. You may be starting to feel some rib pain, as the baby is starting to grow more and is pushing on your rib cage. -

Baby can now produce tears they also develop a sense of smell. -
27 Weeks
Your baby’s hands are now active. Thumb-sucking calms the baby and strengthens cheek and jaw muscles. -

The brain is really active at this point. Now is 14 1/2 inches long with legs fully extended. -

Mom, you may start to see your stretch marks continue to get larger as you are getting bigger. Most women have gained 16-22 pounds by now, and your mobility will most likely change as you grow larger. -

Baby now can blink, the baby is beginning to add body fat and getting ready for the outside world. -

Your baby measures about 10 inches from crown to rump, or a total length of 15.75 inches, and weighs about 2.4 pounds. Brain waves shows rapid eye movement, which means your baby is probably dreaming. Your baby’s eyelids are starting to open and branches of the lungs are developing. -

For the mom you may get minor achiness and may have swelling, you may also develop bulging blue veins -

Your baby is nearly 2 pounds already, and measures out to be about 15.2 inches. Also, as your baby grows, your belly or womb will start to get tighter and you will be less likely to feel those kicks or getting poked by the baby. -

The baby is getting bigger and is about 15.7 inches in length and 3 pounds which is the size of a large cabbage. -

Your baby is hearing A LOT now, and from hearing those noises you may feel some kicks here and there from the baby hearing the noises. At an ultrasound, you may be able to see the baby opening her eyes. -
Week 31
At this week, your baby isn’t expected to grow much longer, but will carry on to gain more weight. Your baby can also tell night from day now. -
Week 31
Now processing information, tracking light, and perceiving signals for all 5 senses. The baby now may be sleeping longer than usual. For the mom you may feel a lot of cramping in your diaphragm because your uterus is pushing against it. -

Your baby is now passing water from their bladder -

Your baby is growing more and more every day, (weight wise) and is having less room to move around in your belly. The skin on your baby will now become more pinker, and less transparent. -

The baby may be standing on his head now, they usaully stay head down or vertex position at this week -

Your baby weighs about 4 pounds now and is the size of a pineapple. He or she is rapidly losing that wrinkly alien look, and the skeleton is hardening. -

Fatigue may set in for the mom, may have often pee breaks a lot, if you are sitting for awhile dont get up too quickly because blood can pool up in your legs and feet causing a temperature drop in your blood pressure and that can make you feel dizzy. -

Your baby now weighs about 4 ¾ pounds, about the size of a cantaloupe. Her skin is now smoother than ever, and her central nervous system along with her lungs are starting to mature. -
Week 35
Your baby’s lungs are almost fully developed. Your baby is still building up fat deposits beneath its skin to stay warm after she leaves your womb. -
Week 35
Your uterus is now reached under your rib cage, you may be dealing with heat burn, you will now see your practitioner every week, and will check for bacteria called Group B streptococci (GBS). -
week 36
your baby now weighs about 6 pounds and is 18 inches long. your baby is sheding the hair that she grew and is swallowing it along with their vernix caseosa and creats the first poop and makes it a blackish color. -

1. Dilation: Latent Phase
Mild uterine contractions can start as early as 26 weeks and sometimes is called "false labor". Cervical dilation causes the tissue to thin out and the cervix to expand. -
2. Dilation: Active Phase of Labor
Having 3 to 4 contractions every 10 minutes, cervical dilation is 3 to 4 centimeters,
contractions produce gradual expulsive motion, dilation reaches 10 centimeters. As the cervix expands, the contractions become closer together. -
3. Expulsion
Contractions reach maximum intensity, they last about a minute and are three to four minutes apart. The position the fetus should be in for birth is with its head down so it is first out of the birth canal. Once the fetus is pushed out through the birth canal, it is considered a baby or newborn. -
4. The Placental Stage
The final stage of birth is when the placenta and fetal membranes are delivered. Contractions stop for a little bit after the baby is delivered, then less intense contractions start to separate the placenta from the uterine wall. After the placenta is pushed out, the uterus will shrink up right behind the belly button. -
