    G.I Bill
    After the end of World War ll may veterans returned and struggled in fiting into their past lives. They could not find jobs, did not go back to school and faced economic issues. Having this conflict President Franklin Roosevelt made the G.I Bill right to benefit veterans. It offered free college tuition, one year of unemployment compensation and loans to buy a home or to start a business. This bill is very important because it is still present to this day for military service.

    The Iron curtain is used metaphorically to symbolize the division in political ideas in Europe.Europe was split into the west having a capitalist government. The East however, was communist that was being ruled over by the Soviet Union. The leader of the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin. The iron curtain was not taken down until the end of the cold war. The significance of the iron curtain is the power gain of communism and one of the leading factors for the Cold War to occur.

The significance in this is that it was leading to the Civil Rights and it was also lifting the U.S economy.

North Korea is in control and influenced by Russia, having a communist government. The significance is the action the is being taken to limit the spread of communism .

    Once nuclear weapons were being obtained by the Soviet Union many feared of the U.S being attacked by an atomic bomb. To clam down the fear of the American people the U.S government created a drill in case they were attacked by nuclear weapons. The drill consisted in going to a corner or behind the desk, rolling into a ball and covering the top of the head with your hands. This was practiced in schools and highly encouraged by the people. The mascot was a turtle named "Bert".

At first Rock n Roll was known to have artist who were African American such as, The Coasters, Ray Charles and Ike Turner. However it quickly got attention of other demographics such whites. New artist started to rise in this era. For example, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Bill Haley and the Comets.

Shows such as "I love Lucy", "Father knows best" and "The Honeymooners" were one of the top rated shows, but they all showed similarities in the structured they were being portrayed to the public. For example, in these shows the male dominance was very crucial as well as the typical house wives. They also tried to influence family bonding and good morals into the American people.

    Joseph McCarthy was known to be a Republican Senator who claimed to know all the names of communist in the U.S. At first he started to accuse his Democrats and Hollywood stars of being communist. They were sent to be interrogated, causing a shock to the American public of an awareness that communism is taking over the U.S. However, his claim in having a list of all the communist in the U.S was false. He was removed from the Senate when he also attacked the U.S army.

    Jack Kerouac and William S Burroughs are known to create the Beat movement. The beat generation can be considered as the "first hippies ideas". They were against living in the American culture. They did not like the lifestyle of the consumer culture, and living free. This also included in having open sexual relationships and the usage of drugs such as LSD. The significance in the Beats is that it challenged culture and it influenced the 70s being a new generation called counter culture.

The significance of this event is that it spread fear to the Americans over the power of communism, which was starting to create paranoia,

    This theory consisted that if South Vietnam fell into Communism then the rest of Europe and Asia would also fall into a communist government. This was the main cause and urgency in the U.S being part of the Vietnam war and defeating the Vietcong(North). The result in the U.S involvement was the begging of hatred by their own American people. Television was a huge influence in broadcasting the war and showing the ugly truth of fighting in a war.

    This was conflict of a girl named Linda Brown and the Topeka board of education. Brown's family did not agree hat it was fair for Linda to go to a far school were she can go to Topeka near her house. She was signed to the school but was rejected from attending the school near her house. This court case was made it to the Supreme Court. It was decided by Warren that public school would no longer be segregated. The outcome is that separate but equal is not in fact equal.

    Dr. Jonas Salk studied biology and physics. He was mainly known for creating a vaccine that could cure the Polio disease. For many years the disease caused paralysis on parts of the body that could result in the difficulty in even walking. Even though it greatly targeted children still some adults contain this disease such as President Franklin Roosevelt. Since Salk has created the polio vaccine this virus is very preventable and has caused a drop in the numbers of people who have polio.

    Emmett Till Tragedy
    Emmett Til was born in Chicago but decided to visit Mississippi over the Summer at age 14 with his cousins. The conflicts occurred when he went to a store owned by Roy Bryant. The story was told that he told the women cashier "Bye Baby" and whistle afterwards when he bough candy. Bryant and his bother in law looked for Emmett and killed him, tossing him in a lake. Till's body conditioned was sever and was sent back to Chicago. His mother had an open casket to alarm the injustice of Jim Crow.

    Elvis Presley
    Rock 'n' Roll became the new movement in music attracting many young people in this time period. A famous Rock n Roll artist born in Memphis was Elvis Presley. He made his first appearance in television in Ed Sullivan were he performed "Hound Dog". Many parents were disgusted by his way of dancing by moving his hips. This caused a revolution in music and promoting sexual appearance for teens. Elvis Presley died in 1977 due to a heart attack, but his music is still well known to this day.

    Sit-Ins in the 1960s occurred on places such as Greensboro North Carolina and Nashville Tennessee. This was a way of non-violent civil disobedience. Most young blacks being part of the SNCC and whites were the ones to most likely to participate on the Sit-Ins. It involved in demanding to be serve at a restaurant were white usually sit. Most black who participated would get beat, called racial slurs, thrown food, and arrested. This was significant because the media saw most blacks as victims.

John F Kennedy was liked due to his looks which takes a turn in the debate process.

The significance in this is that it caused an influence in the mistrust of the government and a new lifestyle in this time period spreading across the western world.

The importance of this person is that not only did he defeat the Polio Virus and saved many lives, but it also caused more development of many other vaccines.

    Freedom Rides were supported mostly by young black and white as a way of protesting for desegregation in buses. The buses would head south to challenge the Jim Crow laws in states such as Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina. A famous ride was by John Lewis who made the ride in order to honor the banned of segregation in schools. However, most of the people in the buses were arrested and attack by the south in their routes, being burned down. This caught attention to the media.

This caused tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union. Soon the U.S found out that the USSR had given nuclear weapons to Cuba. The U.S failed in the "Bay of the Pigs" in trying to stop this situation in Cuba. The agreement was taking the weapons out of Cuba and the U.S would not invade. Another one was to remove of troops in Turkey.

    Cesar Chavez experienced poverty during his childhood causing him to drop out of school in the 8th grade. He served in the military and then worked as a farm worker. He then created the United Farm Workers of America in hopes to create a union to end discrimination in farm labor. His union insisted in a better pay and improvement in work area. His biggest protest was to boycott table grapes due to the mistreatment in workers. This was a success and he is known to be a civil right activist.

    President John F Kennedy was assassinated in November in Dallas, Texas. It was reported that he was in car with his wife attending the presidency election parade. As the public witness the president was shot reporting in being tow bullets. The shooter was called Lee Harvey Oswald. President was announced that he died in Parkland hospital and his death was announced in television. Soon Lyndon Johnson (Vice President) took hold of the presidency office after the death of John F Kennedy.

The chief for the warren commission was Justice Warren who wanted to investigate f the assassination had more than one person involved. The significance is that the people still believed in the conspiracy theories despite the Gov's response.

    The Great Society was introduced after the death of John F Kennedy by President Lyndon B. Johnson. He used the term "Great Society" in the re election in the University of Michigan where he also promised programs that can benefit the American people. Programs that he supported were Medicare and Medicaid were he made it a federal law. He also did an education program called "Head Start" where it provided equal opportunity to the poor in receiving education.

There were three victims who were killed by participating in the Freedom Summer. Their names were Michael Schwerner (Jew), Andrew Goodman and James Chaney who was black. They were stopped by a cop arrested and released. The cop was later found to be part of the KKK and called other members in alarming them about the three men. The three men were killed due to the racism.

He was known to challenge the non-violent protest during the Civil Rights and instead promoted militancy to gain equal rights and did not allow any support from the white community. This creates a division between how to fight for right being militancy vs peace.

This caused a huge shortage in gas. A secretary of State negotiated with OPEC causing the embargo to be lifted form obtaining oil.

The hostages were not released until the end of the election.

She was then nominated by President Ronald Reagan during his presidency to be the fist female Supreme Court Justice. Her political views were moderate conservatives ideas. However, overtime she ends up working more with liberals and eventually sides with them. Her retirement was in 2006 due to the poor health condition her husband (John Jay )'Connor) was in, having Alzheimer.

Many young adults were influenced by MTV's pop culture around the U.S. It has also became a very promotional source in the top artist such as Madonna, Michael Jackson and Duran Duran.

    Monica Lewinsky an intern in the white house and Bill Clinton were accused of having an affair with each other. The age gap between them was Lewinsky being in her 30s and and Clinton in his 60s. It became a crime once Clinton denied the affair by oath calming that he never had any relationship with Lewinsky. However he proven to be lying when they found evidence in Lewinsky's dress. This lead for Bill Clinton to be impeached. Many people in America were tired of listening to scandals.

    Rodney Glen King was known to be a victim of police brutality in Los Angeles. Evidence of video footage was taken by George Holliday, who recorded the beating. In the footage it shows L.A police officers hitting King with their batons and other officers watching the beating, making no attempt to stop the abuse. This incident made it to news television and even provided the video footage being taken. The ending result was that two cops were sent to jail while the other two were acquitted.
