The Anti-Poll tax Unions was set up.
These were local groups that organised protests and gave out informtion to support those not regisering or not paying the poll tax. They produced leaflets, posters, t-shirts, mugs and badges. -

The First ABAPTF was setup
The first All-Britain Anti Poll Tax Federtion was set up -
Poll Tax is introduced in Scotland
The law to pass it was made in 1987 -
The Battle of Trafalgar Square
The ABAPTF called a national demonstrtionin Trafalgar square in 1990. 200,000 protesters turn up.
The calm protest changed to a riot later in the day and 341 people were arrested, 542 police officers were injured, no official record of how many injured protesters were injured but the number was in the thousands. -
Margaret Thatcher was replaced by John Major
Thatcher was replaced by John Major as Prime Minister. -
Major annouced end of Poll Tax
John Major annouced that the Poll tax would be replaced by the Concil Tax in 1993. Protests continued untill 1993 when the poll tax changed. -
Poll tax was abolished
The protests were sucessful and the tax was cancelled
