Jim Crow is a actor that performs in black face. He was not the first of his time to do this but he is the most popular. And soon by the end of the 19th century Jim crow was being used to desribe laws that oppressed black people. -
Thirteenth Amendment
President Abraham Lincoln aproved the thirteen admendment but in December 6, 1865 states ratified it. -
Fourteenth Amendment
on July 28, 1868 the fourteenth amendment is rejected by southern states and ratified by 3/4 of the states. -
Fifteenth Amendment
The fifteen amendment give black men the right to vote but it is ratified like the rest by the states in 1870. -
Homer Plessy Gets Arrested
Plessy bought a first class ticket for the train and got on the white carrige. He also told the conductor he was black and refused to go to the appropriate car then got arrested. -
Homer Plessy Talks Back
Plessy said that The Seperate Car Act violated the 13th and 14th Amendment. -
Judge Ferguson
The next day Plessy went to court and John Howard Ferguson said he is guilty and should be charged. -
Racial Segregation
All of the businesses were free to practice Racial Segregation. -
The Supreme Court's Decision
Homer Plessy said to the court of Ferguson to say the charge of violating the seperate car act. He change his plea to guilty and paid the $25 he had to pay. -
Brown v. Board of Ed
Court justices in Brown v. Board of Ed of Topeka, Kansas case changed their decision and said segregation was unequal and violated the 14th Amendment.
