    The southern states and the northern states grew apart and soon started a war. The war ended slavery in the south since the north didn't need slaves. The war ended on May 9 1865.

    Homer Adolph Plessy was born on March 17, 1862 and came out to be 1/8 black. Plessy was a shoemaker and was married to Louise Bordnave at age 25.

    JIm Crow Laws started in 1877 with an actor named Daddy Rice. He rubbed charcoal on his face and danced in a silly way. It was a way to describe African Americans. Laws that segregated blacks and whites were soon known as Jim Crow Laws. They restricted many rights for African Americans.

    Louisiana passes the Separate Car Act that makes railroad companies companies provide seperate (but equal) cars for black and white passengers in 1890.

    Plessy boarded onto the Louisiana Railroad in the white only section of the train. He was asked to move to the black section even though he bought a first class ticket. Plessy said that this was a violation of his rights.

    Homer was sent to jail. The bail money was $600. Plessy went to court on May 18,1896. He was best known for being the plantiff in the Plessy v. Ferguson case. This court case made all the Jim Crow laws legal! They called it seperate ,but equal.
