Peter and Ivan are crowned
25 June 1682
Ivan had an infirmed mind. As a result, he was crowned along with Peter the Great, his half brother. The act was to bring an end to the Moscow Uprising. -
Sole rule

In February 1696 Ivan died. Without him,Peter I the Great was crowned the sole ruler. -
The tour

Peter the Great began his tour through Western Europe. Peter and his delegation wanted to win aid and help from Western European monarchs. -
The tax

Peter cut off the beards and mustaches of his chief boars. The ukaz of the 1st of September 1698 allowed people to wear beards but a tax was imposed upon their wearers. -

He introduced the Julian calendar in Russia with celebration of New Year on 1 January as well as tradition of decorating Christmas trees. -
The Great Northern War

The Great Northern War was a long and bitter conflict led by Tsar of Russia. The war was to last for twenty-one years. Finally Russia established itself as a major European power. -

The budget
1710
Peter the Great sets the first Russian state budget. -
The boyarskaya duma
1711
Peter the Great abolished the boyarskaya duma and the boyar council was established by decree the Senate to supervise the collection and expenditure of income, and to draft legislation in accordance with his edicts. -
"Colleges"
1718
Peter the Great in 1718 instituted 9 “colleges" or boards. Crimes against the state came under the jurisdiction of the Preobrazhensky Office, responsible immediately to the tsar, Peter. -

The senate acclaimed Peter “Father of the Fatherland, Peter the Great, and Emperor of All Russia.” -
The civil system
1722
Peter the Great created a system of civil service by introducing the Table of Ranks. The Table of Ranks created a "social elevator" for hardworking military and government officials. -
Peter dies
8 February 1725
Peter the Great assumed the title of the Emperor of All Russia and he died in St. Petersburg in early 1725. The cause of death was a pneumonia.
