Peter began his journey to Europe in attempt to westernize Russia. This plan actually worked for him because he adopted many of Europe's strategies. His army became very strong and powerful which made Russia look good and also helped them win more land and battles. -
Peter starts taxes on beards
Peter decided that in order to be westernized, nobody should have a beard. He made everyone shave off their beards and even made police officers shave off people's who refused to do so. Later on, he loosed up and realized that he could potentially make profit from the beards. This became known as the beard tax and stayed in power 47 years after Peter's death. -

Northern War starts
Peter the great had a very successful army and he wanted more land. He had made a truce with the ottoman empire, but wanted land near the Baltic seas. He went into the Northern War which was supposed to last for 21 years. After a long battle, Peter won and it became known as one of his greatest accomplishments. -
St Petersburg founded
After winning Northern War, Peter founds city of St. Petersburg as new capital of Russia. -

Peter the great marries a woman named Catherine. She later became known as Catherine the Great of Russia. -
