    This period takes over the span of two world wars, many conflicts with other countries, and several financial issues in the country. Going from imperialism to the Great War was a hard hit but the nation recovered only to enter the Great Depression. The nation then finds itself a great leader who betters the nation and leads them and others to a victory in World War II.
  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    This war had very little impact on the nation and was even called a "splendid little war." This war didn't last very long and was led mostly by Teddy Roosevelt as he charged up San Juan Hill. After the war, America ended up gaining Peurto Rico and Guam.
  • Platt Amendment

    This restricted Cuba's power and ruling and gave the U.S. the right to intervene in Cuban affairs. This also allowed the U.S. control of the naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
  • 16th Amendment is Ratified

    This amendment allowed the U.S. Congress to tax income. This shifted much of the power from the state government to the national government.
  • Lusitania Sinking

    Lusitania Sinking
    This was an important role in WWI as the death of so civilians caused by the Germans galvanized American support for entering the war, which eventually turned the tide in favor of the Allies.

    The Zimmerman Telegram was a coded letter sent by German offices. This proposed a military alliance with Mexico. This meant that if the U.S. entered the war, Mexico would easily be able to enter America and fight for they had previously lost.

    The market crash caused not just the American economy to decline, but the international economy plunged horribly into the Great Depression. The biggest issue in the U.S. was the high unemployment rates that caused 13 million to be unemployed, hungry, and homeless.

    This was a turning point in the war as the Allied forces gained control of France and defeated the Germans who were occupying it. This showed to the Germans that the Allies were getting closer and wouldn't stop until all was alright.
