    Spanish Exploration

    Spanish Exploration
    Began looking for a shorter route to Asia. Columbus and Cortes found Cuba in 1519.
  • British Colonization

    British Colonization
    The British Colony was developed by Walter Raleigh. Raleigh was chosen by Queen Elizabeth. His first attempt was in 1585, but unsuccessful. Raleigh's second attempt worked. Walter returns to England, and he was forced to stay there because England was fighting the Spanish. When he returned to Roanoke in 1591, nobody was there. This made the 1st British Colonization a failure.

    The Dutch started to explore and they found the Spanish also they found an island but they didn't go to them cause they were scared.

    In Ireland, a severe famine occured with crops and diseases. The Irish Potato Famine began when a fungus or disease was spreading all over Ireland, causeing them to immigrate to America.

    In 1846, a war broke out with Mexicans vs. the United States. Everything changes in Mexico and the US. They were facing each other for the states of Texas and California. This event caused immigration because of safety reasons and people thought there would be more land in the United States after the war.

    The Irish Draft Riots broke out with five days of mayhem and bloodshed. Some of the Irish wanted to immigrate to America because of the riot.

    The Japanese immigrated to Hawaii in 1880. This was not a state claimed by the US for another two decades. About 200,000 people moved to Hawaii from Japan. People immigrated here because of the jobs that came with harvesting fruit.

    Guadalupe Victoria was the first President of Mexico, in office from 1824 to 1829 after he was done in the office he didnt like the population so he left Mexico as a imagrant and came to the United States.

    Takaki opened a resteraunt in Portland, Oregon, and he was trying to seel Japanese goods to Chinese Merchants that were in the US. He later became a labor contractor. He helped Portland create a center of immigration workers.

    The Mexican Revolution was caused by political problems. Very few people in Mexico had money and power to do what they want. People wanted to immigrate because they were tired of the dictator rule and they were unhappy with the working conditions.
