  • The Lahore Resolution of 1940

    The Lahore Resolution commonly known as the Pakistan Resolution was a political resolution, or statement drafted between 22nd to 24th March 1940, by the 25-member Working Committee of the All-India Muslim League,This resolution asked for greater Muslim autonomy of Muslim majority states such as Punjab Bengal Sindh, NWFP within British India. 
  • The Cripps Proposal

    Cripps Mission was sent by the British Government in March 1942 to India with key objective to secure Indian cooperation and support for British War Efforts. Headed by Sir Stafford Cripps, this mission sought to negotiate an agreement with Indian leaders.
  • The Quit India Movement

    The 'Quit India' movement was meant to disrupt the working of the British government but the Congress got just one day,8 August 1942 to protest.The next day on 9 August,the government arrested Mr.Gandhi,Mr.Nehru and most Congress leaders,although by the timethe movement was called off.
  • The Jinnah-Gandhi Talks

    When Mr.Gandhi got released from jail a meeting was set up between him and Mr.Jinnah.An agreement could only be acheived if Congress accepted a seperate state and nationality for the Muslims of India but Mr.Gandhi was not willing to accept the division.The talks were unsuccessful.
  • The Elections of 1945-46

    General elections were held in British India in December 1945 to elect members of the Central Legislative.The Muslim league won the entire muslim vote while Congress won the entire non-muslim vote.
  • The Cabinet Mission Plan

    The Cabinet Mission came to India aimed to discuss the transfer of power from the British government to the Indian leadership, with the aim of preserving India's unity and granting it independence. Congress objected to the grouping of Provinces while Muslim League objected to partition of large provinces but later agreed as mainly muslimprovinces were grouped together.
  • Direct Action Day

    Muslim league had accepted the Cabinet Mission Plan but were frustrated with negotiations between Congress and British who didnt favour idea of Pakistan as much so The Muslim League rejected The Cabinet Mission's Plan and announced a Direct action day on 16 August 1946.However communal violence flared up and thousands died after Direct Action Day.
