The Cambrai Madonna
This painting was painted by St. Luke. It was painted in 1340. This painting is a good example of Byzantine art for various reasons. First of all the theme is religion. It shows baby Jesus holding on to his mother. There is not much emphasis on the background which is a thing Byzantine artists used to do. The medium seems to be a paintbrush.
I was attracted to this painting because I love the color of Mary's robe. The motherly love of Jesus in this painting attracted me to it as well. -

Birth of Venus
This painting was painted by Botticelli. I can tell it's a renaissance painting because it is highly detailed. The characters are in reasonable sizes as well. chiaroscuro was used as well to add depth to the painting.
I was attracted to this painting because it seemed messed up. To me, messed up paintings are representations of true art. The detail in this is simply fascinating. -
Hercules on the Pyre
This painting was painted by Guido Reni from the Baroque era. It shows Hercules on a pyre. The painting shows exaggerated lighting on his body. It also shows intense emotion. It seems like he is begging for mercy if I'm not mistaken. The artist used dark colors everywhere except for the body area.
I was attracted to this painting because I love Hercules. To me physique is an art, an attractive type of art. The physique of Hercules in this painting is amazing, especially his wide shoulders. -
Outbreak of the Vesuvius
This painting was painted by Johan Dahl. This painting shows a volcano. Romance artists believed a relationship with nature was healthy which is shown in the painting. The artists also believed that there shall be no rules dictating them and they should draw what they feel like. I believe this is shown in the painting because there are people camping on the right side and people standing in front of it.
I was attracted to this painting because I love nature and the blazing red caught my eye -
The Gleaners
This painting was painted by Millet. I can tell it's a realism painting because realism artists usually drew common people or laborers. It also doesn't contain things out of the ordinary like angels or flying men. The presentation is quite accurate which proves it is a realist painting.
I was attracted to this painting because of the colors. The colors are not very bright and they're calm. The calm feeling of this image attracted me to it. -
The Harvest of Hay in Eragny
This painting was painted by Camille Pissarro. I can tell it is an impressionist painting because it tried to capture a larger reality possibly by chance. The artist obviously used oil painting and stroked it. This medium was widely used by impressionist artists.
I was attracted to this painting because the art shows people performing daily tasks. The strokes on this painting are unbelievably amazing. There is not much detail on the faces which is something I like. -
Persistence of Memory
This painting was painted by the famous Salvador Dali. I can tell this is a surrealist painting because the scene is illogical.Strange creatures from pocket watches were made. The medium is obviously paintbrushes and acrylic colors.
I liked this painting because it is showing pocket watches in a strange way. In one scene the pocket watch is hanging from a tree and in the other it is folded on a table. This painting is truly illogical. -
Encantu Rumi
This painting was painted by Pablo Amaringo. I can tell it is visionary art because it has a spiritual and mystical theme. It contains symbolism as the priest is placed up high. The painting is somehow surrealist-like because it is a bit illogical which is a property of visionary art.
The art in this is amazing. I love how the purple color makes the background standout. The people painted also standout. The artist succeeded at making both the background and the people standout.
