This is Pablo Picasso's first painting, Le Picador, that was completed at the age of 9. -
The First Communion
This is Picasso's first major "academic" painting. This painting is a portrait of Picasso's sister, Lola, at her first communion. The man by Lola's side is either their father or Vilches, a doctor and a friend of the family. The young boy at the alter is Pete, Vilches' son. -
The Blue Period
This is the beginning of the Blue Period which lasted from 1901 to 1904. This era of Picasso's art was a very depressing and saddening, with most paintings pertaining to the color blue. The picture shown is a self-portrait with an art style similar to Vincent Van Gogh. -
The Death of Casegemas
This painting was made during the Blue Period of Picasso's Life of art. This painting is a portrait of a friend that committed suicide over a lover. The painting's art style is very similar to the style of Vincent van Gogh. -
The Rose Period
This marks the beginning of the Rose Period. The Rose Period was the exact opposite of Picasso's Blue Period. The Rose Period used mor vibrant and bright colors and during this period is when Picasso developed his own style of art. The painting here is called At the Lapin Agile. -
The African Influenced Period
This era of his work was widely influenced by African works of art, such as totems or sculptures. One example of this is Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, which was inspired by Iberian sculptures he had. -
Cubism Era
This marks the beginning of the 4 year period of Cubism. Picasso, co-founder of Cubism, became very famous for it. The 2-D and basic geometric shapes make up this art style. The painting shown is called The Three Musicians. -
Matisse-Picasso Gallery Exhibiition
An exhibition of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, put together by French Poet named Apollinaire, was opened at the Galerie Paul Guillaume in Paris. The image here is called Autoportrait a la palette (1906) which was displayed at the exhibition. -
Neoclassic Period
From 1919-36, Picasso went back to a more traditional style of art, called Classicism. But he didn't keep this style of art for long for he went to the surrealism style of art where one of his most famous paintings were done, Guernica. -
War Time
From 1937-45, during the WWII, when Picasso was living in Paris, he did multiple paintings that showed his view on the current war going on. His painting, The Charnel House, was an example of the Nazi concentration camps. -
The Death of a Spectacle...
Picasso passed away in style while entertaining guests at his dinner party, in Mouglins, in the southeastern part of France. Picasso will continue to live on through his art and Picasso's last words were "Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can't drink any more."
