Iron Lung is developed for use with polio patients. Polio causes are currently unknown nor is there yet a cure. It is in the middle of the long scare. -

Ed Roberts, a student with polio, is declined admission to UC Berkeley. He fights to overturn his rejection and helps set up the first Center for Independent Living. -
1983
ADAPT (Americans with Disabilities for Accessible Public Transportation) start national campaign to get lifts on buses and other important improvements in public transportation for people with disabilities. -
1988
Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988 is passes. It increases availability and funding for assistive technology in the schools. -
1991
AIDS is included in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, allowing HIV infected students the same access to education as other students. -
1998
Dentist is required by the Supreme Court to work on a patient who is HIV positive. -
1999
Soccer league is required by court to allow a player with cerebral palsy to play. His walker is padded for safety during the game. -
2004
Youth Information Centers start to be funded by the Administration for Developmental Disabilities. They are run by and for youths/emerging leaders with disabilities.
