15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment states that the government shall not deny any person the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude (ex. slavery). Many people were excited about this, because it was a huge part of the Civil Rights movement that the African Americans were fighting for. The 15th Amendment is still important to many people to this day. -
Completion of the Panama Canal

The Panama Canal was originally started by the French in 1881, but due to lack of funds, and poor working conditions, the building of the canal was stopped in 1889. The U.S. then took over the building process and completed it in 1914. The Panama Canal was ratified in 1904. -
Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
The objective of this assassination was to break off Austria-Hungaries south-Slav provinces so they could be joined with Serbia, or Yugoslavia. The assassination is believed to have caused so much tension, that it caused World War I. -
U.S. enters into World War I
At first, the U.S. tried to remain neutral, but Germany failed to follow orders to not sink ships, and that is when the U.S. intervened. Germany was sinking boats left and right, and President Wilson had had enough of it. Also, the Zimmerman Telegram played a major part in the U.S. involvement, because Germany was trying to get Mexico on their side, but the telegram was intercepted. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. It ended the war between the Allies and the Germans. There were many other treaties for other countries, but this one was most important. -
19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920. This Amendment to the constitution states that nobody will be denied the right to vote based on sex. Many people were happy with this Amendment because of women who fought for the right to vote finally got what they wanted. -
Hitler invades Poland
Hitler invaded Poland to overturn the Treaty of Versailles.
He also invaded Poland to oppose communism and conquer Russia. Another reason for the invasion was to prevent an anti-German alliance. -
Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor
Japan was trying to prevent the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interrupting their plans that Japan was planning against Asia. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese, fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes in two waves launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. battle ships were destroyed; four of them were sunk. -
Executive order 9066
President Roosevelt signed this order, stating that the military could use certain areas for military zones. During this, Japanese people were relocated from their homes to internment camps to be detained. The reason they were detained was because of a histeria because the U.S. was scared because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. -
U.S. drops the first atomic bomb on Japan
The U.S dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, after the Japanese did not respond to our threats. During World War II, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, so we retalliated. -
U.S drops the second atomic bomb on Japan
After yet another failed attempt to surrender by the Japanese, the U.S. dropped our second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. After this bomb was dropped, the Japanese finally surrendered, after the hundreds of thousands of deaths were realized. -
First military advisors sent to Vietnam

In 1955, President Kennedy sent military advisors into Vietnam. Kennedy felt tension rising, so this was his reasoning to do so. After the war broke out, the U.S. was already prepared for war, because our military advisors were keeping a watch on the area. -
March On Washington
The March on Washington was a huge event for the Civil Rights Movement. This march was to gain jobs and freedom for African Americans. The March on Washington was the largest demonstration to ever take place in the nations capital. -
President JFK assassinated
During a motorcade through downtown Dallas, TX, President JFK was fatally shot. Lee Harvey Oswald was the man who was believed to have assassinated the President. Nobody is entirely sure why the President was shot. -
First combat troops sent to Vietnam
A group of air defense helicopters are sent to Vietnam to protect the U.S. air base that is stationed there. Both China and the Soviet Union threatened to intervene on behalf of South Korea if the U.S. continued to send troops over. 2,000 students, lead by Moscow and China attacked the U.S embassy. -
Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated
While the Civil Rights leader was standing on the balcony at his motel in Memphis, TN. There was one shot that hit him in the cheek bone. The bullet bounced around inside of MLK and injured him more. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. -
Vietnam War Ends
After 19 years, and 180 days, the Vietnam War finally ended. The U.S. government was trying to stop the spread of communism, and it ultimately ended in a war. 58,220 American service men died in this war. -
U.S. helps Afghanistan from the invasion of the U.S.S.R.
This was a 9 year war. The U.S. gave aid to Afghanistan against the U.S.S.R. The last troop withdraw was February 15,1989. -

U.S. begins bombing against Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait
The original attack was to try to get Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait. Iraq fought back against the U.S. They also launched SCUD missles at targets in Saudi Arabia and Israel -
U.N. resolution 678
This resolution stated that Iraq must comply with the orders to terminate the war with Kuwait. Iraq failed to comply with many other resolutions, so this resolution was a lot more harsh. The resolution stated that Iraq had to remain siezed on the matter, meaning that they could not go back. -
U.N. declares victory in the Persian Gulf War
After Iraq invaded Kuwait, the Persian Gulf War was started. The U.S. helped fight this war, and everyone was going to end the war by 1991. After most of the Iraquis either fled or surendered, the U.N. declared a victory.
