Killy was leading when Austria's Karl Schranz came down the fog-shrouded course. Around the 21st gate, Schranz stopped when he says he saw a mysterious figure stray onto the course. In a re-run, Schranz defeated Killy and was the unofficial winner for two hours. Later, officials disqualified the Austrian, saying he missed two gates before the interference occurred in the original race.The French said Schranz missed a gate and made up the story about the figure -
