Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun worked on a compromise. Congress passed a new tariff that was good enough for S.C., who in turn repealed their ordinance of nullification. -
Compromise Tariff of 1833
The states demanded the backing down of the nullification, this slowly reduced the other tariffs.
