Elie Wiesel was born
Elie Wiesel was born in Sighet. He has a sister named Tzipora. -
Sighet
In Sighet Elie lived in a town with his dad, mom, and sister. When Hitler started ruling and started creating concentration camps, Elie started losing his Jewish rights. Some of the Jewish rights that he started losing were that Jewish people couldn’t own gold, jewelry, or anything of value. Another right Elie started losing was they could only stay out till 6 p.m., they had to wear the Star of David, and they could not go to restaurants. -
The Ghetto
In the Ghetto, Elie and his family were kicked out of their homes and forced into a Ghetto. A Ghetto is a set of blocks that are being watched by German Police and had barbed wire surrounding them so no Jews could escape. Elie liked the Ghetto because they were amoung their selves. -
Birkenau
When they had arrived in Birkenau, Elie, his dad, his sister, and his mom had gotten separated because of gender and age. Elie had to lie because he had wanted to be with his father. In Birkenau Elie also saw children and babies being thrown into a pit of fire. In Birkenau Elie also lost all faith in God because he could not believe that God could let such things happen to the world. -
Aushwitz
In Auschwitz Elie’s father had a colic attack.A colic attack is really bad abdominal pain. His father asked the guards where the toilets were located and he got slapped because of the question. In Auschwitz Elie also got his identification number, he became A-7713. In Auschwitz Elie found a long lost relative, Stein. Also Elie found out that his mother and sister were in other camps as well. -
Buna
In Buna, Elie’s block leader Franek wanted Elie’s gold crown because the Jews were not allowed to have any gold in their possession. In Buna Elie had also gotten whipped 25 times because Elie saw Idek copulating with a young polish girl. In Elie and other men witnessed a man being shot because he was trying to steal two hot cauldrons of soup left unattended. Then 3 men were hung because they had guns under their bunks. Selection then happened, which they had both passed. -
Infirmary
During the winter Elie’s foot started swelling, and he went to the Infirmary. He loved being in the Infirmary because he got more bread, thicker soup, and didn’t work. The doctor said “Then listen well: in two weeks you’ll be fully recovered. You will be able to walk like the others. The sole of your foot was full of pus. I had to just open the sac. Your leg is not amputated. You’ll see, in two weeks, you’ll be walking around like everybody else.”(Wiesel Pg.80) Elie marched with the camp. -
Abandoned shed
In the middle of the march, the officers ordered to halt by an abandoned shed. All Elie wanted to do was to sleep, although his father did not let him because it was too dangerous. When Elie and his father went out of the shed, all they saw was dead men lying on the ground. In the Shed, Rabbi Eliahu had lost his son and was digging through the snow to find him, Elie knew what happened to his son, but did not remember to tell Rabbi Eliahu. -
The Wagon
Men in the streets from outside of the wagon watching the prisoners go by were throwing bread into the wagon. Men in the wagon started to act like tigers and lions mauling each other. When a piece fell into Elie’s wagon he was smart and decided not to go for it. Then he saw an old man crawling from the mob. It looked like he had gotten hurt in the chest, but then Elie realized it was a piece of bread he was holding. The man’s son killed his father because he wanted the bread. -
Father Dies.
Elie’s father was sick with the Dysentery disease. Elie would trade his ration of bread to be next to his father. The Officers taking care of his father told the sick that they did not need to feed them because it was a waste of food since they were going to die soon anyways. One morning, Elie woke up and his father was not laying I his cot. He was taken to the Crematorium. -
Feedom
That afternoon at 6 o’clock the first American tank stood at the gates of Buchenwald. The first thought as free men to Elie was bread. After Elie was released he got sick from poisoning, and in a matter of life and death. He had not seen himself since the Ghetto, all he saw was corspe.
