He goes to the frontier against Germany. Ends up in prisoner of war camp. -

After being released from the prisoner of war camp he returns home to Anja and Richieu. -

Vladek sees gestapo shooting at Jewish citizens while going to see a friend. -

While not yet to an official ghetto, Vladek's family makes its first required move to a forced Jewish only community. -

Anja's grandparents are seen for the last time before they are taken away. -

Bunkers or fake walls were made and used to hide people in case of searches. -
Selection/Registration at Stadium in Sosnowiec
In a big stadium all Jews were required to register with the German police and have papers. They were split into the healthy and unhealthy and the unhealthy were taken away. -
All Jews in Sosnowiec Ordered to Move into Ghetto
A small neighborhood where all and only jews lived. -
Richieu is sent to Zawiercie and dies soon after
Vladek and Anja must make the decision to send their son away with family for his safetey but he ends up dying anyway when his ghetto is evacuated. -
Family moved to another house in the ghetto
They made bunkers or hiding places in both houses that they lived in to hide during searches. -
Vladek and Anja arrive at Auschwitz
Vladek stays at the main camp but Anja is moved to Birkenau. -
Vladek in Quarentine
When he first arrives at Auschwitz he is held is a small and confined area. -
Vladek begins work at camp tin shop
Although he was not a tinsman, he became one of the best workers and used his job to visit Anja at Birkenau. -
Vladek begins work at camp shoe shop
By making shoes Vladek could get food as rewards from certain guards. -
Vladek begins blackwork
at Auschwitz. Blackwork consisted of heavy physical labor. -
Vladek is marched from Auschwitz
When the war front got too close, prisoners were moved from Poland to Germany. -
Arrives at Gross-Rosen
After a march of 90 miles Vladek stayed one night in the small camp. -
Prisoners were loaded onto trains
For one week prisoners were packed tightly into cattle cars. Vladek made a hammock to stay above everyone and reached out the window to eat snow. -

Vladek is marched towards the Swiss border
He is marched on by the Germans on foot towards the boarder rather than by train. -
The war ends
Prisoners are put on a freight train for the next town to be met by American's. -
Prisoners are again taken by gestapo
Instead of Americans they are met by Wehrmacht patrol and marched to a lake to be executed. When they wake in the morning the patrolmen have left. -
Vladek is stopped as again by patrol
They are put in a barn for the night and once again the Germans had left in the morning. -
Vladek hides in yards and house
With Shirek, he finds a newly abandoned house to live in. -
Vladek boards a train bound for the Swiss Border
He left with hopes of being exchanged as a war prisoner. -
Working for American soldiers
Vladek speaks english and helps them with odd jobs. -
Vladek goes to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
A displaced persons camp for refugees where he was given identity papers. -
Vladek and Shirek go to Hannover
They take a train and stop in Wurzburg. -
Vladek hears about Anja
When in Belsen, Vladek meets two ladies who know Anja and who help him contact her but tell him not to return to Sosnowiec. -
Vladek goes to Sosnowiec
He takes a train to Poland but loses Shirek and walks the rest of the way for four weeks -
Flies to Sweden
Flies to Sweden with Anja for a new llife.
