Pennsylvania's Constitution
Pennsylvania was one of the first states to write a constitution, they wrote the constitution because they wanted all citizens to be equal. The constitution was changed any ties throughout the years, some people were not happy with this constitution and would end up changing it anyway. -
Articles of Confederation
This was created to make a union with the states that gave most of the power in government to the states themselves. This made it hard to get anything done and did not let them place taxes to raise money. -
Constitution
The new constitution strengthened the federal government. This new document was made in Philadelphia and replaced the articles of confederation. -
Fries Rebellion
This protested a direct tax on land, houses, and slaves. This was to fund the army and the navy, they ended up dumping boiling water on tax collectors. -
Constitutional Convention
Important members of society met to create a New State Constitution after just 13 years of the old constitution. This divided the national government into three different groups, executive, judicial, and legislative. -
The First Political Parties
This was created because they had strong feelings about how much power the federal government had. There were two different political parties created the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. -
Whiskey Rebellion
People were revoked by the tax on whiskey, especially the farmers because it was more expensive so less people bought whiskey. This caused the people to fight back against the government and their taxes. -
War of 1812
James Madison decided that British violations against American rights couldn't be tolerated anymore so he asked for a declaration of war. Pennsylvania was supportive and supplied money, supplies and leaders. -
Battle of Lake Erie
The British had blocked of Philadelphia and the only thing left was to fight on the water, so they built ships to combat the British Army. This battle had only taken a few hours to win, and it caused the British to draw troops out of the states back to Canada. -
Treaty of Ghent
The treaty reached America slowly which caused the British to attack New Orleans, Andrew Jackson defeated the British and became a hero. This battle was the last time the United States fought against its mother country.
