Emergency Banking Relief Act
The Emergency Banking Relief Act was the first step of many to restore American's faith in the banking system. The act declared a banking holiday and helped to reopen many of he banks that had closed during the early 1930's. This act was important because if President Roosevet could restore the people's faith in the national bank it would help solve the probelms on Wall Street. There was no specific end to this piece of legislation, but it most likely ended as soon as the economy was saved. -
Federal Emergency Relief Administration
This administration was created under the Federal Emergency Relief Act. The main purpose of the administration was to create start-up funds to help the needy and unemployed.The agency helped give to those in need, whether it was money to buy food or money to buy clothes. The Federal Emergency Relief Administration was later replaced by the Works Progress Administration in 1935. -
Tennessee Valley Authority
This piece of legislation was enacted by the Tennessee Valley Act in 1933. The main purpose of the program was to help wit Power Production and flood control in the Tennessee Valley. This act was helpful during the Great Depression becasue it helped create many jobs. The Tenessee Valley Authority is still in use today. -
Federal Housing Administration
The Federal Housing Administration was created in the National Housing Act of 1934. The main purpose of the program was to insure loans for building and repairing homes. This was essential during the Great Depression becasue then people didn't have to move out of their home even if they couldn't afford it. This program is still in use today. -
Rural Electrification Administration
The Rural Electrification Administration was created under the Rural Electrification Act. This administration worked to not only bring electricity to rural farms, but also make it affordable. This administration worked to better connect the people of America which helped during the Great Depression. The Rural Electrification Administraion no longer exists in this form today. -
National Youth Administration
In 1935 President Roosevelt signed an executive order establishing the National Youth Administration. The administration provided part-time employment to college and high school students. This helped combat the high rate of unemployment during the Great Depression. The National Youth Administration is no longer in use today and ened in 1939. -
Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration was created under the Social Security Act of 1935. This organization worked to provide a pension for retired persons, thier spouses, and aided people with disabilities. This was important to the Great Depression becuase it helped decrease people's worries about what they would do when they couldn't work. The Social Security Administration is still in use today. -
United States Housing Authority
The United States Housing Authority was established under the Housing Act of 1937. The USHA provided federal loans for low-cost public housing. This helped combat the Great Depression becasue it helped to get many homeless people out of the streets and into homes. The United States Housing Authority was later reorganized into different administrations. -
Fair Labor Standards Act
Fair Labor Standards Act
The Fair Labor Standards Act helped to create a better workplace. They did so by establishing a minimum hourly wage and maximum hours in a work week, set rules of employment for people under the age of 16, and banned hazardous work for those under 18.This combatted the Great Depression by equalizing the payment in a work place; which gave everyone a same chance at a steady income. This act is still in use today. -
Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act
The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938 set up the Food and Drug Administration (FDA); which is still in use today. The main goal of the act was to require manufacturers to list ingredients in foods, drugs, and cosmetic products. This helped combat the Great Depression by taking away the worry that many people had about unsafe products.
