The British take India as a colony
The British take India as a colony for Queen Victoria. -
The Indian National Congress is formed
The Indian National Congress is formed by Indian Hindus. -
The Muslim League is formed
The Muslim League is formed by Indians who follow Islam. -
World War 1
During World War 1, many Indians joined the British in hope of Independence. The British promised that India could work towards a self-govenment, but didn't keep their promise. -
The Rowlatt Act
The Rowlatt Act was passed. It stands that Indians can be sent to jail without trial for up to two years. -
The Amritsar Masscare
After the Rowlatt Act was passed, many Indians were upset. They protested the act one night, and British troops opened fire on the gathering, claiming it to be illegal. It killed 400 people and wounded 1200. This caused all of India to join together to fight for freedom. -
The French take Indochina
In the early 1900's The French take over Indochina, which is modern Vietnam. -
The Government of India Act
After many years of civil disobediences, the British passed the Government of India Act, giving India some self-government. -
The British Offer Dominion
After the break out of WW2, the British offer India some contorl over there country (dominion) but the Indians delicine it because it isn't the freedom they were looking for. -
Taking Sides
The Indian National Congress and Gandhi refused to help Britian in the world war, but The Muslim League joins their side, in hope of independence. -
The End of WW2
After WW2 ended, The British grant India with their freedom, but the different religions can't make up their minds about how to organize the country. Britian then takes control and parts India into three states: Hindus India, East Pakistan, and West Paksitan. Indians were forced to move acoording to their reilgion. -
The New States
On August 15, 1947 the three new states are formed and they were free to run it as they pleased.
