THREE most important achievements/changes first 100 yrs of US
I believe the three most important events/changes that happened in the first 100 years of the United States are the writing of the Constitution, the California gold rush, and the Civil War. The writing of the constitution because it created the fundamental system of laws and rules of practice for the government and people of the United States to follow. -

The California gold rush because it gave more incentive to move westward to California and towards other western regions which helped to define and enhance the manifest destiny mindset/attitude present in the 19th century. -

The Civil War because it ultimately ended slavery. It did this because President Lincoln felt that ending slavery would help end the war, and it did. If the war never happened, slavery probably would have been abolished a lot later. -

During the time of the Civil War, America could be described as a harsh environment stricken with war. Blacks were slaves in the south, whites on either side of the war were fighting and killing each other, and Native Americans were being forced from their homes and treated with false peace. -

A large rally was planned by anarchist leaders to protest alleged police brutality. -
(4) In the end... 1886-Nov. 1887
In the end, eight anarchists were put on trial and seven were convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. Four were hanged in November 1887, one committed suicide and three were later pardoned by Illinois governor, John Peter Altgeld. -
(1) McCormick Harvesting Strike - May Day 1886
The workers at the McCormick Harvesting Machine Co. in Chicago began a strike in the hope of gaining a shorter work day. -
(2) A scuffle broke out - May 3, 1886
Police were used to protect strikebreakers and a scuffle broke out; one person was killed and several others injured.
