My school sets up the new computer lab in the school. We are the proud owners of new Apple IIc/e computers, but have limited access. We begin to learn BASIC language so that we can learn how to program the computers to do basic tasks. My first program, HELLO. Then I learn how to make lines and have them move across the screen randomly.

My First Game Console Experience -Nintendo Video Game - 10-Yard Fight
I went to a friends house to play the game, it was a Christmas present he received. The players would disappear and the images were low-res blocks. But as a 2 dimensional games it had future possibilities written all over it. Many days were spent playing this, but the weather that year was bad so not really a loss. (Snowstorm of the decade happened and we were glad we had electric in order to play inside.)
  • Tactical Satellite Communications

    Tactical Satellite Communications
Army job was Tactical Satellite Operator. The technology was new to me, using satellites in orbit above the earth to communicate to other locations during military operations. I Joined the Army straight out of school, and stayed in this job for 7.5 years.

    Compact Disc Player
While Compact Disc players were out for a couple of years I finally was able to buy my first CD player and my own music. I chose Whitesnake (Is This Love). Big hair bands were the best and in concert in Germany.
  • Digital Group Multiplexing

    Digital Group Multiplexing
Communications was evolving in the Army. Digital (1's and 0's) was used for combining multiple phone lines into one stream of data. Similar to 16-bit or 32-bit transmission but it was also encrypted so it could not be intercepted. We were able to transmit VOIP, teletype, computers, and other types of communications devices over our systems.

    My First College Diploma
I finally graduated with an Associates in Electronic Technologies. After using the technology for 8 years in the military, I thought it would be great to learn more about how it works and how I could fix the tech boards if they went bad. Learned a bunch that I never used, but some did come in handy at a later job.

    Dial-up Internet
While we are used to the internet being widely available now, it was not always that way. Dial-up internet was finally reaching areas outside of large cities in NY. It was slow but it was something new and exciting. Learning how to use search engines was a new thing, now people don't even think about how far we have come in 18 years.
  • My first iPhone Xr

    My first iPhone Xr
I can actually admit I was a holdout on purchasing an iPhone. I never used an Apple device before, so this was a large step for me. I was told to get with the times by my own kids, so the pressure was on me to change from android to Apple.
  • More Apple Products

    More Apple Products
Upshur County is going full tilt on using Apple products in the classroom for teachers and students. Learning a new way of teaching with new equipment. Apple TV in my classroom, MacBook Air, and an iPad all of which I have never used in my personal life are now part of my professional career.
