Malcolm Cameron visits Washington, D.C. about a trade reciprocity agreement.
Hello my name is Josh and i am a European. I am ten years old and i live with my mother and father in a one story house in Hamilton Ontario. Christmas and the new year has just pased and school has started again. Today i went to the post office and i recieved the news paper and some letters for my parents. In the front page of the news paper there was a heading saying 'Malcolm Cameron visits Washington, D.C. about a trade reciprocity agreement'. -

The St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad opens.
My father is part of the consevative liberal group. He is away all the time debating at the house of commons. Today he was near St.lawrence and he was there for the grand opining of the Atlantic Railroad! -

Hunting with my father
Today i went hunting with my father for the first time! We didnt find anything at first, but after a while we found a moose. I managed to get him down with my bow and arrow! My dad was very proud. We had a delicious dinner and tons of left overs! -
Canadas imagrint population is rising
There are a lot more immagrints moving here from other countryies. In the News paper today there was a heading saying the immigrint rate in Canada is up to 14,009,429! -
Trinity College opens
Today my older brother went off the coledge and he went to the new Trinity College! We are waiting for him to send us a letter. Hope he is having tons of fun and making memories. :) -
The Toronto Stock Exchange opens
The Toronto Stock Exchange is the largest stock exchange in Canada. Today was the day it opend! My mother went to pick up the News Paper from the post office and it was on the front page. Hopefully one day i could be there to admir it. -
My birthday
I am thirteen now and my father came home from Ottawa today for my birthday. He came home with somehting big and wraped in gift wraping!! I knew it was for me. When i opened it there was a giant bow with my name on it and a few arrows! I was speechless. -
Using my new bow
Today i went out with my dad to use my bow. We looked and looked for something to hunt but we seemed to find nothing. :( Eventually we found a baby deer with no mother around. My dad gave me the signal to fire. As i streached my arm back with the feeling of the arrow sticking to the sweat on my hand. I hesatated to let go but the arrow sliped out of my hand without a trace. I was waiting to see if my aim had succeded. Then out of nowhere it hit the deer directly in the heart. -
The Great Western Railway opens
The Great Western Railway opend linking Toronto, Hamilton and Windsor. The train stretched 1,371 kilometres running from Niagara Falls to Toronto and connecting lines to London, Windsor and communities in the Bruce Peninsula. It is a beautiful train to ride on and it is becoming popular! -
The Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty is signed
Today the Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty was signed. It represented a move toward free trade from United Province of Canada and the United States. -
A Great Western Railway train collides
52 people died today from a crash with a train and a tail end of a gravel train. It was very sad news when my friends came over to hang out and he told me that his brother was on that train. On October 30 there was a funaral for his brother. It was my first funaral ever and it was probibly the sadest moment in my life. :( -
Bytown is renamed Ottawa
Ottawa was Founded in 1826 as Bytown and incorporated as "Ottawa" in 1855. Hopefully we visit there someday because it is supposed to be a beautiful city. My dad has been there several times for his meatings in the house of commons. But i always have to stay home to help my mother. -
Creation of the village of Embrun, Ontario.
The new village call Embrun is about a10 hour horse ride from where i live. ' A pretty long ride if you ask me '. Only 57% of Embrun's population speaks French at home, while 41% speak English at home. Also The first residents of Embrun settled the town in 1845. François Michel named the town in 1857 after Embrun, France. -
Queen Victoria names Ottawa as capital of the Province of Canada
Today was a huge day for canada! Queen Victoria named Ottawa the capital of the Province of Canada. When i first heard the news i from my friends at school i couldnt belive what had happend. I made sure after school i ran home to tell my mother. As she had already heard from the the news paper in the post office. She said my father should be returning soon to have a party with us. I couldn't wait! :) -
The Toronto Islands are created
Today was a pretty cool day for canada. An Island in Toronto was created by a fierce storm that detached the island from the mainland at the Eastern gap. They named it the Toronto Island. -
Broke my leg :(
Today was probibly the worst day ever. My friends showed up at my house and asked if i wanted to play tag. Then he stated that i had to be it. I was couting with my hands over my eyes and when i got to zero i looked around and saw my friend Mark hiding beheind the tree. As i ran over to tag him i tripped on a whole in the ground.The pain in my leg was excrutiating. I was very dizzy and felt like i was going to pass out. But the pain from my head felt like nothing in comparison with my broken leg -
205 killed in the SS Hungarian ship wreck
The SS Hungarian ship crashed today. A crew of 7 men were lowered into a lifeboat and rescued. It was wrecked in 1860 at Cape Sable Island, off Nova Scotia. -
Hunting
Today i went hunting with my father. It was thankgiving and we were trying to make a delicouis dinner for my mother. We found a big moose. My dad aimed and used his spear to try to kill it. He and the moose was running away. I pulled back my arm with the arrow in my hand and let go. But i missed to. At the end of our hunting trip all we had was 2 squirals. We were ashamed. -
A major flood hits Montreal
Today i got a letter from my friend that lives in Montreal saying a major flood hit. At first i was very worried as i was reading he said some of his new friends had died. I was astonished and wondering if he was ok. He said at the end of his letter that his family was ok and that he would be traviling to Ontario soon to see me. -
Helping mom
My mom wanted me to help her in the garden today because summer was comming up and she wanted a beautiful garden. We started by puting some mulch down on the ground. Then she mad some little wholes in the ground to place flowers in. She took out three tulips from her bag and ask me to place them in the whole. I did it one by one then i scouped out some mulch and pated it down around the tulups. -
William Grant Stairs, explorer, soldier and adventurer died 1892
Today a famous explorer died named William Grant Stairs. I remember hearing about him in the news paper when he sailed from London on 20 January 1887 and sailed to Suez on 6 February. He was born July 1, 1863 and died 1892 -
Night before Christmas
Tonight was the night before Christmas and me and my mom were fixing up a delicouis dinner for father. It took us seven hours to cook the turkey ( Its not thankgiving ) and make our home made apple sauce. The apple sauce my mom made was to die for and everyone in the family addorid it. I also had to make the table for dinner. My mom bought some Christmas popper from the store too. I have never heard of Christmas popper before but mom told me there is a price and a joke in every one. -
Sister got married
Today my sister got married and it was my first wedding. My sister walked down with her husband is the most pretty dress. It was my moms wedding dress when she got married. As the preast said you may kiss the bride there was a shiver down my spine and i was happy for my sister to be married. -
A train of newly arrived immigrants fails to stop
It happend at 1:20am in the morning the train was carrying between 354 and 475 passengers. There was 99 deaths and 100 injuries approximitly. The Grand Trunk Railway sent large numbers of men to assist the recovery and rescue efforts but many still died that morning. -
Macdonald, Brown, Cartier, Galt
Today Macdonald, Brown, Cartier, Galt appointed to negotiate Confederation in London. Today they mad a apointment to meet each other in London. Im sure it will be in the news paper and my mom will make me go pick it up at the post office. -
Robert Foulis inventor died
Robert Foulis inventor died today and i remember meeting him and talking to him when i went into the city to get some milk. He said his name was Robert Foulis and he was an inventor. I never heard about him until he died and when i met him. -
John A. Macdonald marries agian.
Today John A. Macdonald married his second wife Susan Agnes Bernard. John A. Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada. Agnes Macdonald was born near Spanish Town, Jamaica. It was a big day for Canada as the Prime Minister got married for the second time. -
Hunting
Today i went hunting by myself to get some food for mothers day. I maneged to kill a squirrel with my first shot of my bow. Then i saw a huge black bear and its cubs. I decided to leave then alone as i didnt want any danger. At the end of my hunting trip i killed 2 squirrals, 1 deer, and 1 elk. Dinner was delighful as we cooked and ate everything. I was stuffed! -
Patrick James Whelan is hanged
Patrick James Whelan is hanged for the assassination of Thomas D'Arcy McGee. Whelan was born in County Galway in 1840 and died from hanging in 1869. D'Arcy McGee was born on 13 April 1825 in Carlingford, Ireland, and raised as a Roman Catholic. It was very said to hear someone died from a murder and the person that comited the murder died from hanging. -

The 1870 New Brunswick election took place today. The 2nd New Brunswick general election was held in June and July 1870, to elect 41 members to the 22nd New Brunswick Legislative Assembly. Pretty confusing if you ask me. -
The last of the British army leaves Canada
Today the last of the British army left Canada to fight in the war. The British Army began the period with few differences from the British Army of the Napoleonic Wars that fought at the Waterloo. The British Army during the Victorian era served through a period of great technological and social change. -
Victoria Memorial (Montreal) unveiled
Today the Victoria Memorial (Montreal) was unveiled. The fine statue of the Queen Victoria adorning the Victoria Square is the work of sculptor named Marshall Wood. It is a landmark of Canada and it represents Queen Victoria! -

Winnipeg was incorporated as a city today. Winnipeg is the capital and largest city of Manitoba, Canada. Before the first European encounter, First Nations peoples appear to have been engaged in farming activity along the Red River. -

Today i went to go get the news paper from the post office and i read some headings. One was about how the new Brunswick election had started. Also it said that Edwin Atwater, business person and municipal politician had died today. -

The building of Fredericton City Hall is completed
The Fredericton City Hall is the meeting place of the Fredericton City Council in New Brunswick, Canada. My dad has been there before for work. The three-storey building was constructed between 1875 and 1876 by architects McKean and Fairweather and built by H. B. Crosby and O. M. Campbell in the Second Empire style. It would be pretty cool to see my self. -
University of Manitoba founded.
University of Manitoba was founded today. The University of Manitoba is a public university in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Located in Winnipeg, it is Manitoba's largest, most comprehensive, and only research-intensive post-secondary educational institution. There name is the Manatoba bisons and there mascott is a bison. -

The 4th New Brunswick general election was held in June 1878, to elect 41 members to the 24th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly. The election was held before the adoption of party labels. -
Ontario election
Ontario election was today. Ontario general election, 1879 was the fourth general election held in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on June 5, 1879, to elect the 88 Members of the 4th Legislative Assembly. The Ontario Liberal Party, led by Oliver Mowat, won a third term in government with a larger majority in the Legislature. It was pretty cool because the election was in my provence! -
George Brown died today
Brown was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, on November 29, 1818 and immigrated to Canada in 1843, after managing a printing operation in New York City with his father. He was a big part of canada if you ask me. Brown was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in 1851. He reorganized the Clear Grit (Liberal) Party in 1857, supporting, among other things, the separation of church and state, the annexation of Rupert's Land, and a small government.
