  • Swimming

    Swimming
To most people, swimming is just a fun activity to do on a hot summer day, but to me it's something different. Swimming is my life and is where I feel like I belong. Swimming has helped me shape who I am today because swimming isn't just a team sport its an individual sport. Being the best you can be and beating your times and becoming better everytime as long as you try your best.
  • Learning About Bobby's Disability

My brother Bobby was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome at birth. I didn't realize that my brother was different until I was about 5 years old. This is significant to my life because Bobby is my inspiration to become a teacher in Special Education. Bobby has shown me that everybody is the same. People with disabilities can still do every day things like we can. Bobby is my world and I can't picture my life without him.
  • Mike's Accident

    Mike's Accident
Mike is a very close family friend. Mike was in a boating accident 6 years ago and broke the C5 vertabrae in his spine. Mike is now a C5 quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. Mike's accident has helped show me that no matter what the situation you can get through anything as long as you have friends and family by your side and most importantly NEVER GIVE UP! I see Mike improving every day and volunteering with the foundation has motivated me to help even more people.
  • The Start to My Brothers Addiction

The Start to My Brothers Addiction
It's a long story about my oldest brother but I will keep it short. My brother, got addicted to drugs shortly after graduating high school. This is significant in my life because during this time it nearly tore my family apart, and forever changed his relationship with my dad. He was stealing items from me and the rest of my family to support his habit. They argued constantly leaving me scared to be at home.
  • My Brother's Recovery

After 3 years, my brother decided that it was time to change. He decided to start the road to recovery. This is significant because I was finally getting my brother back. I could finally feel safe in my own home and I was confident that the fighting was over. My brother is now 2 1/2 years sober.
  • My Sisters Wedding

My sisters wedding is significant because my sister is in an interracial marriage. Although segregation was many years ago, people today still view interracial relationships negatively. Her wedding brought 2 families of different races together and we are now joined as one happy blended family (:
