First day of high school
I consider my first day of high school a big milestone. Even though I got lost trying to find one of my classes, it was a surreal experience. I really enjoyed having more independece during the school day. But, I do remember thinking "Wow, this is going to be really hard." And that statement was 100% true. I found my freshman year to be a great struggle. I wasn't used to the workload and time limitations. -
Making the Varisty Tennis Team
The image of me and all my friends I'd grown up playing tennis with waiting to see if we made the high school team remains in my mind even today. That Friday afternoon had us all very nervous. It became a competition of who had the courage to open their letter first. Of course, we made it a much bigger deal than it should've been. We were all going to make the team in the first place, but how could we not be still a little nervous. We all (our small group) made the team, and I was inspired. -
Helping my sister move into college
This day for me was the first moment I really realized how quickly time passes. Traveling down to Georgia Southern that weekend and helping Meg arrange her dorm was a somewhat emotional experience. The house would be less noisy without her, which was pretty sad to think about. From this day, I learned that I should try to live in the moment. This was hard for me, because I was not a fan of high school. Yet, I soon tried to stop and look around every now and then. -
US Open Trip
I cannot describe in words my feelings of excitement and happiness during these three days. Having the opportunity to travel to New York and watch the best tennis in the world was phenomenal. I am very thankful towards my parents for affording me such an opportunity. As a person, my passion for tennis grew during this trip. -
Getting my first car
Ah yes, the ticket to freedom! On this day, I had also recieved my driver's licence. My first car was handed down from my sister and was a 1996 Ford Mustang. This car was always reliable and always enjoyable to take trips in, no matter the length. Not only did I soak in the excessive freedom, but it also made me realize that high school is flying by. Unfortunately, this car was recently totaled in a wreck where I was hit head on by someone who ran a red light. Frankly, I'm just glad I lived. -
Recieving All-County Player of the Year
On this day, I was presented with the biggest honor I'd ever recieved. The Cherokee Tribune named me Player of the Year out of all other tennis players in the county. I remember the photographer pulling me aside at All-County pictures and giving me the great news. I was in shock. She began to start a recorded interview and I struggled to contain my excitement! -
Senior Prom
For me, senior prom was a great way to wrap up my last year. I really had fun that night with all my friends I've grown up with. The next day, after all the partying was over, the realization that high school is soon coming to an end hit me. At first, I was overjoyed and couldn't wait to get out of here. But, after thinking about it for some time, I realized that all of these people will be gone forever. The thoughts were bittersweet. Senior Prom made me wish I created more fun memories.
