My Experience As An Immigrant

  • My Birthday

    My Birthday
My name is Darcel Kian. I was born on March 1st 1843. I live with my family, obviously. I have an older brother, and a younger sister, Brittany, and Justin. Plus my parents. Nichole, and Sam. We all live in Gallway Irelend. We have lived her for 12 years and we want to travel into the United States and we are currently figuring out a way to travel there.
  • Tenement

    Tenement
We finally made it to the United States. But we are currently living in a Teniment until my parents are able to get jobs. This building is horrible. Everone is just crowded in one small room. Its not the best home you can get, but atleast we are ataying off the streets. The worst part of these teniments is that to many other families are sick and could get me and my family sick. Hopefully my parents get a job soon.
  • Flat Iron

    Flat Iron
I was one of the few girls that worked on the Flat Iron building. This building was very dificult to work on. We were really high above the ground with nothing supporing us. if we fell, then we would die. I have seen a couple guys fall and die. This is a risky job but were getting paid so its well worth it.
  • Civil War Nurse

    Civil War Nurse
Working as a civil war nurse is a lot work. The wounds I had to see were horrible. Blood was everywhere! A lot of people got their arms and legs cut off. It was sad. I had to take care of these people, for 4 years. Plenty of people were killed. The smell was horrible. More and more soldiers came in to get help but some were just left to die. There were not enough nurses to help them. We didnt clean off the saw that we used to cut off the legs of people, so a disease spread.
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    Transcontinental Railroad
6 years have past and I finally got a job. I'm working on the transcontinental railroads. I am working on the tracks. This takes a lot of work, sitting out here all day in the hot sun. Its orrible but atleat I get paid. It's not much but its something for my family. I am able to get a little food with this money. Working on the railroad takes a lot of time. But we have a lot of people working on it so we get the job done fast.
  • Eliis Island

    Eliis Island
The physical exam was horrible. I got seperated from my brother and my dad. So its just my mom, my sister and I. As soon as we all got done the exam we started looking for my dad and brother. We could not find them for atleast an hour. There are so many people here! Its way to crowded. As we seen then walking through the gates we gave them hugs and we were happy they made it through!
