Louisiana Purchase
This land was origionally owned by Spain who then sold it to France. The French then sold it to the U.S. We needed this land because it contained new Orleans and this granted us access to the Mississppi River to the Gulf of Mexico and the Altlantic Ocean. France sold it to the U.S. ffor $15,000,000. -
Lewas and Clark Complete Trip
Lewis and Clark were explorers who started off in St.Louis and there goal was to discover information about geography, people, and nature recources. These 2 travelers traveled up the Mssissippi River traeling through the plains. Thew discovered 300 new species of wild life, Were the first people to reach the Pacific ocean by land, and they Survived throught the rocky mountsins. -
Texas Independence
Texas has faught a war against Mexico to become independent from exico. That same year the MexicanArmy attacked and defeated Texan Soldiers at the Alamo fort in San Antonio. After Texans lost at the Alamo Texan troops under Sam Houston defeated the Mexican Forces. Texas had won independence but found it very hard to run an independent government they wanted to become pat of the United States. Then America admitted t\Texas to the the Union. -
Texas Becomes a State
Mexico had been controlling the Texas territory until 1836, but then Texas won its independence. First it became its on country but then they found out it was very hard to run an independent government so then wanted to join the U.S. . In 1845 Texas joined the U.S. as the 28th state. -
Mexica War-American War
The Mexican-American War lasted from 1846-1848. U.S. forces took control of most of California in 1846. In September 1847 US took control of Mexico City and in 1848, the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo was signed. So then Mexico had to give up their terittroy and the Unitted states had expanded again. The U.S. gained Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah and most of Colorado and part of Whymonig. -
Oregon Territory Part of U.S.
After getting Oregon we had to split half of the land witht the British. After lots of negotioation Britain agreed not to have a war and accepted to deal. James Polk our current president slogan was 54 40
which ment all that lend but we only got 49 which we slpit in half with Elgland. The top part was theres and the bottom part was ours. -
California Becomes a State
California became a state because of the Golad Rush. In 1848 gold was discovered i Califronia. Lots and Lots of people started going out to California in 1849 to ge rich. The people whoe went to caifornia to get gold where called the fourty niners. This huge amount of people led to California becoming a state. -
Gadsen Purchase
A little while later The U.S. payed Mexico annother $10,000,000 for the Gadsen Purchase, which was a strip of land alnong the southern edge of prresent day New Mexico and Arizona.
