Baruch Spinoza was expelled from the Jewish community for rejecting the divine authorship of the Torah among other ideas, but he did not convert to Christianity. He became the first secular Jew. -
Moses Mendelssohn's Life
Mendelssohn was a man who countered Baruch Spinoza, who believed that the Enlightenment was compatible with observant Judaism. -

This was a decree made by Joseph II of Hungary, which allowed Jews to freely live in Hungarian society, outside of the Ghetto. This inspired many other European Countries to do the same, and led to widespread apostasty in Judaism. -

The French Revolution was a time in France when power and wealth was wrestled away from the Monarchy, and given back to the common man. -
