The First Crusade
The first crusade played an important role in Medieval England, it was a re attempt to capture Jerlusum. Some of the leaderes of the first crusade was European knighthood. The months which followed the Council of Clermont were marked by an epidemic of religious excitement in western Europe. Popular preachers everywhere took up the cry "God wills it!" and urged their hearers to start for Jerusalem. Most of the armies were gathering in the west and recruits came in greater numbers from France. -

The people who particapted in Second Crusade had probably planned to do so before hearing of the loss of Edessa to Zangi, the urgency of the crusade was likely reinforced by the loss. The Second Crusade didn't directly help the Christian presence in the Mideast, from 1153 to 1169 the Franks were again on the offensive. However, the attack on Damascus probably also helped Nur al-Din gain control of Damascus in 1154. -
