  • Miguel Hidalgo

    Miguel Hidalgo
    Miguel Hidalgo was a priest who helped the native people fight for independence. He helped the natives grow crops, but when the Spanish found out, the destroyed the crops. Miguel knew that unless the Spanish left, the native people would always be poor.
  • They Cry Of Dolores

    They Cry Of Dolores
    Miguel Hidalgo called for the natives to overthrow the Spanish. He gave the speech titled 'The Cry Of Dolores' in towns, making his way to Mexico City. By the time Hidalgo got to Mexico City he had an army of 90,000, the Spanish only had 6,000. Hidalgo lost, but this battle gave the native people confidence to overthrow the Spanish.
  • Jose Morealos

    Jose Morealos
    Inspired by what Hidalgo did, Jose Morealos decided to conquer the Spanish. He defeated a few of the Spanish armies, but the Spanish captured and killed him in 1815.
  • Agustin De Iturbide

    Agustin De Iturbide
    At first, Agustin De Iturbide was on the side of the Spanish. He even helped defeat Hidalgo and Morealos. Then, Iturbide secretly switched sides. He did this so he could sieze power in Mexico. He made the 'Plan Of Iguala'. These were his 3 promises. 1. Iturbide becomes emperor, 2. Catholic was the official religion of Mexico and 3. Equal rights for everyone. He also promised to get ride of the Social Pyramid. When he was made emperor, he was driven from power because he didn't help the people.

    Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna

    Mexico became a republic in 1824. Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna was a general. He faught at the Alamo. He then became president. It turns out Santa Anna was a terrible president. He was then exiled to Cuba. Later Mexico asked him to come back and be general again. He lost his first few battles but then he started winning again.

    In this war, Mexico lost half of its land.
  • Benito Juarez

    Benito Juarez wanted to change Mexico for the better. Juarez took control of Mexico in 1855.

    The Freanch Invasion

    The French invaded Mexico in 1863 because they were Spain's allies. They kicked Juarez out of office. The French then crowned Maximilian ruler of Mexico. Juarez then gathered an army and threw out the French. Juarez executed Maximilian in 1867.
  • Porfio Diaz

    Profile Diaz seized power in 1876. He didn't care about the people. He came into power by coup. He built many modern things. Diaz ruled with an iron fist, he was a dictator.
  • Francisco Madero

    In 1910, Francisco Madero called on the Mexican people to overthrow Diaz. They did so and Diaz was no longer dictator.
  • Mexico's Freedom

    In 1917, Mexico became a democratic country. The constitution was also written. After years of fighting, Mexico was free.
