Jose Maria Morelos's Death
Jose Maria Morelos took over the struggle for independence after the death of Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla. He wrote the declaration of independence. He was captured by the Spanish colonial authorities, tried for treason and executed. -
Agustin de Iturbide
Agustin de Iturbide did not want independence, for he was a royalist. Spanish authorities wanted Iturbide ro lead the final battle against the revolutionaries, in hope he would end the Mexican independence movement. Iturbide believed he might lose some power if he did, so he fought for the Mexican Independence. -
Three Part Proposal
Iturbide created a three-part proposal and presented it to the leader of the revolution. This proposal said that first, Mexico will gain independence, but also be a monarchy. Second, creoles and peninsulares will have equal rights. Lastly, the Roman Catholic Church will be the official church of Mexico. -
