  • President John Tyler, signed the official proposal of the statehood of Texas

    President John Tyler, signed the official proposal of the statehood of Texas on March 1, 1845. A proposal of statehood is when a “soon to be state” becomes a real state by being signed by the Government. Texas was once its own country, but they soon realized they couldn’t do it and went to Mexico. Soon after, they gained independence and are now apart of the U.S as a state.
  • State annexes Texas

    In June 16, 1845 the United States annexes Texas, but they didn’t realize it at first. When the United States first annexed Texas, they didn’t realize it since they got the word a little later than it happened.
  • Mexican American Began

    In April 25, 1846, the American Mexican War began. 2,000 Mexican troops were sent into war to attack the fort of Texas. This was the official date that the Mexican American War officially started.

    U.S won the battle of Palo Alto
    The 8th of May in 1846, the U.S won the battle of Palo Alto. The Battle of Palo Alto was the first major battle of the Mexican–American War and was fought on May 8, 1846, on disputed ground five miles from the modern-day city of Brownsville, Texas.

    General Taylor captures the Mexican city of Monterrey. Taylor's troops first occupy the city of Matamoros and Camargo before heading south to Monterrey. It is a hard fought battle that results in a series of losses for both sides, but the U.S. eventually wins

    The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo officially ends the Mexican-American War. The Rio Grande River is established as the U.S.-Mexican border. Under the treaty, Mexico recognizes the U.S. annexation of Texas and agrees to sell California, as well as all of its territory north of the Rio Grande.

    General Taylor and General Santa Anna face off near Buena Vista. General Taylor's troops are largely outnumbered but with the use of heavy artillery they are victorious. The Battle of Buena Vista is likely General Taylor's greatest victory of the war and helps him get elected as president of the United States in 1848.

    Mexico attacks the Fot Texas
    The Battle of Resaca de la Palma begins when Mexican troops attacked Fort Texas, which they believe is located in Mexican territory. Mexican troops are forced to retreated and suffer anywhere between 250 and 400 casualties. This part of the war was one of the most important parts of the war because it showed the strengths and weaknesses of Mexico
  • A week of fighting came to an end

    A week of fighting came to an end
    After a week of fighting, General Scott and his troops wear down a weary Mexican Army and seize Mexico City. The Battle of Mexico City marks the unofficial end of the Mexican-American War.
