This decade placed a lot of emphasis on being polished and sophisticated. But of course, this is much different than our ideas today on what polished and sophisticated looks like. -
1810-1820
Clothing in this decade was much more refined, during a romantic movement which was influenced by the English revolution. -
1820-1830
During this decade menswear was heavily influenced by English Chic, including many sober colors and shapes. Clothing was also still heavily influenced by the revolution during this time period. Top Hats and large hats in general were very prominent. -
1830-1840
This was known as the Victorian Age. Clothing was typically made of velvet, silk, or canvas with silk, or Berlin wool work embroidery. -
1840-1850
This decade showed a preference for a much bolder style, particularly seen in frock coats with wider lapels and looser cuts. Fashion became fancier and more extravagant.
