Prelim
Pre Lim was created. It was created in one day with no prior use of photoshop or any other similar softwares. I used still camera to take picture around college and edit them to fit the style of a college run magazine. My preliminary task was very sloppy. This is due to how inexperianced I was at photography and using editing softare, as well as the pressure of it having to be done in such a short time frame. -

Course Work
-
Production Began
I also had no real knowledge on magazines, how they looked, were layed out or they content that they offered, as I had never read them before. I made my planning much more effective by analysing the cover page, contents page and double page spreads of several magazines. This gave me a much better insight into the type of magazine that I would be making. -
Analyis
For my preliminary activity, there was no research. For this coursework assignment, I researched into magazines and audiences. To do this I created a survey monkey page, and emailed it around. It was from the responses that I gained that I based my content and target audience on. This was much improved in relation to my preliminary activity. -
Taking the photographs
The quality of my actual photographs were immensley better. The lighting, angles, use of models and poses all lead to a much more realistic magazine. The use of a tripod was also involved as to assure that the pictures were entirely stable, and would not blur. Location was also much better, both in the studio and placement of models in front of a degraded brick wall. I also took many more photo's, as to make sure that I got a good selection to work. -
More Photographs
I also took different takes from differnt positions to ensure more high quality pictures that I could choose from so that I have a fairly sized collection of suitable photographs. -
Editing
Looking at my final product now, I can see how the use of a skylight, flashes, banners and borders are all used to catch the readers eye and bait them in. I missed much of this during the prelim, and used minimal editing, and was left with a poor product. I learned to use taglines, to give the reader just small descriptions to invite them to read more of the magazine. -
More Editing
I improved upon my preliminary task by a huge margin. I have learnt to create backgrounds, skylights, banners, borders, flashes and how to crop images properly. I also learnt how to better manipulate image colour grading, brightness and contrast to create a better picture. I learnt how to blend images into backgrounds, to create a more flowing magazine page, that didnt have square boxes. -
Creating the pages
I also learnt the importance of picture and text location, how and where to place my images and text, to create realistic looking magazine pages. I improved the quality of my fonts, better choosing more appropriate fonts that were suitable for their placement. -
Final Product
The overall quality of my final piece was vastly more impressive than my preliminary activity. This is due to all of the factors that went into it - the better planning, usage of time and editing, as well as now having a basic understanding of the software and cameras.
