There were problems found in food-canning and the drug industry. So now that there is a pure food and drug act, the requirements is that the meat is to be cleaned properly and the ingredients is to be safe. And as for the medicine it is to be advised to people safely and truthfully.

When did congress pass the meat inspection

The meat inspection act was passed in 1906 being that the facts in the book "The Jungle" were proven to be right after President Roosevelt had inspected the Meatpacking industry.
