On this day in history, four major meatpacking corporations had brought out the many small slaughter house campiness throughout the United States. Every meatpacking industry that have been created is another step closer to making meatpacking unsafe. (MP,S2) -

On this day, the meatpacker's Union in Chicago went on strike, demanding better wages and working condition. These immigrants workers are taking a stand and demanding rights. This is one step towards making meatpacking and workers safer. (MP,S2) -
Workers
During this year, most of Chicago's packing house were immigrant workers from Poland, Slovakia, and Lithuania. Knowing that there were many immigrants workers shows that the immigrants had no choice but to only do a job that lead them to severe injures which tells us that they wasn't cared for. (MP,S2) -
The Jungle
Union Sinclair wrote a novel "The Jungle" to describe the horrors of the meatpacking in great detail. This novel really sparked many people to take action and do something about meatpacking, Sinclair wrote about what he saw and how many people are affected by this. (MP,S4) -
Acts
Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act. This law requires manufactures to use safe ingredients in their products and to advertise them truthfully. This act will ensure that what goes in the food in monitored and that the food everyone eat is pure. (MP,S4) -
Fire
On this day, the horrific Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire happened. It was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of the city, and one of the deadliest in US history. Many immigrant workers were in the factories working when a fire happened. All the doors were locked because the bosses didn't want the workers to escape work, but when the fire happened there was no way out for them which resulted in the 146 deaths. (MP,S4) -
Progressive Party
The progressive party platform explicitly supports federal protection for laborers. This was good for the workers protection and made sure that the food they produce is also safe. (MP,S4) -
Former President Theodore Rossevelt
In,former president Theodore Rossevelt campaign, he ran against Taft in the progressive party because he believe in reform. Rossevelt supports helping meatpacking industry and the fact that he was the president was a good choice because he help meatpacking become safer by passing Acts. (MP,S4) -
Workingmen's Compensation
On this day, the government pass the Workingmen's Compensation Act, providing government financial assistance to federal employees injured on their jobs. This act will benifit the workers and will help save more money for the workers. This way the workers will be safe and healthy to support their families. (MP,S4)
