    On this day in history the act on congress was supposed to inspect the contents of packaged goods. Although this act was supposed to monitor what was inside packaged foods, this was not always the case, people didn't really take this act seriously, causing many food to be unsafe for American citizens to eat. This book opened up many Americans eyes, showing them the conditions of meat packing and how the workers were getting treated when Upton Snicalir went undercover for seven weeks uncovering the terrors of the meat packing industries.     On this day in history congress passed a pure food and drug act which requires manufacturers to provide safe ingredients in their products. This act supports the conditions that our food is in and want it to change as much as we want it to. (MP,4)
