Vladek meets Anja
Vladek and Anja meet through friends and soon fall in love. However his ex attemps to break them up. With his ex's fail plan to break them up they are stronger than ever and get married. I think this is a turning point because there would be many different events if he didn't meet Anja, such as he wouldn't have expanded his business. This connects to the theme of through hard times hope will get you through it, in this sense the ex is the hard times but his relationship gets better after that. -
Anja and Vladek's son is born
When Vladek was starting us his factory that Anja's father helped him start Anja gave birth to a baby. The babies name was Richieu. This is a turning point and a positive character development because this causes Vladek to become more responsible and more of a parental figure. In addition this makes him and Anja's relationship stronger. This connects to the theme because before that Anja had depression but when she had the baby she was happier because she got closer with him. -
Vladek is called for his service
Since Vladek was in the polish army he was called for his service to serve in the war. Due to this event he must leave his family to fight against the Germans. This is the longest he has ever been from Anja which builds their relationship. This is a negative character development because he could have gotten both physically or mentally injured. Connection to the theme, he spent a long time away and was in the war but got reunited with his wife which is the hope and the war is the hard times. -
Vladek is released from a forced work camp
Vladek is realeased form the foced labor and goes to another camp. In that camp he is able to escape from it with the help of a friend. This forced him to become more slick and creative. This also made him become tougher, this is positive because it prepared him for what was to come. This is a turning point because he is freed and reunited with his family. The theme of through hard times there is hope connects to this because he suffered thorugh work but then is reunited with his family. -
Moved to the Scodula ghetto
In the spring time the remaining Jews living is Sosnowiec were forced to live in the Scodula ghetto. This is a turning point because this is where is son dies which makes his wife more depressed. This is a negative character development because this haunts him even more, with the kids screaming and violence happening within the ghetto. There is not much hope through this period of their lives, after this they are sent to Auschwitz but in the long run they do get liberated. -
Arrives at Auschwitz
Vladek arrives at Auschwitz and is there for about 10 months. His jobs were to repair shoes and taught English. This is a turning point because this is a point where he almost dies and there is a big risk. I think this is a negative character development because this also causes truama and those who go in see mant horrifying images. The images will most likely stay and huant them forever. These are the hardest of times for them but he bribed people to get Anja with him, that is his hope. -
Anja gets moved to Auschwitz
Vladek was able to bribe enough people to get Anja to be closer to him. I think this is both a negative and positive development because she would seem safer where she was, as it was not a camp where it was known to kill a lot of people. However Vladek moves her closer to him which could have killed her but it did make her feel better because she did have depression so he could take care of her. The connection to the theme is that they are enduring the hardship and still hoping for freedom. -
Through hard times hope will get you through it
