    Nullification Crisis
    The Nullification Process was an argument between the North and South. The Tariff of 1828 were created increasing taxes in the country, which angered many Southerners because they were heavily affected. President Andrew Jackson believed the Tariff was unconstitutional and created a new tariff, the Tariff of Abominations. South Carolina wasn't please with the new tariff either, so that lead to the Nullification Ordinance in 1832. It declared boh Tariffs null and void.

    Frederick Douglass and the North Star
    The North Star was a four page weekly paper that was issued out of Rochester, New York. Frederick Douglass created it after speaking in England, Ireland, and Scotland. He talked about ending slavery in his paper and documented his journeys.

    The Compromise of 1850 was a act to try to end slavery. the south liked to have slaves while the north didnt agree. after the compromise more states became slave free and 4 more decided to be slave states.

    Fredrick Douglass was a speaker for the Abolition Movement. He was a slave and he was able to escape and be free. He went on to tell his story and to speak about ending slavery.

    Kansas/ Nebraska act and popular sovereignty
    This act created the territories of Nebraska and Kansas. They were nether free or slave states, they were both. Farmers could choose to have slaves or to not, and it wasn't restricted to where they lived.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    The Surpreme Court ruled that slaves taken to free states were still property of their slave owners. It named African Americans as non citizens, so they couldn't object the other ruling. If slaves were to run away, it made it harder for them to do so, and they were returned back to their owners.
  • Abraham Lincoln Election

    Abraham Lincoln' election to presidency led the South to decide if they were going to leave or seceed the United States. They wanted to keep their slaves, but President Lincoln wanted to keep the Union as it was, but also abolish slavery. That angered South Carolina, which lead to them seceeding from the Union

    South Carolina Secession.
    South Carolina was afraid that Abraham Lincoln would not be sympathetic to them or treat them fairly since they were Democrats and wanted slavery. South Carolina was fed up with what was going on, and decided to leave, secede, the United States. They were the first official seceders to leave, and were soon followed by 6 other states.

    Bleeding Kansas was a war between the Northerners and Southerners of Kansas whether to be a free state or not. It didn't kill many people, but it started a lot of conflict in the state. The war spanned from 1854 to January 29th 1861, when Kansas entered the Union as a free state.

    Formation of the Confederate States of America
    The Confederate States of America consisted of 7 Southern states who did not agree with Abraham Lincoln's laws. They wanted to be slave states and not give up their rights, so they could continue farming at an advanced rate. They elected Jefferson Davis as their first president, who was a Democratic senator and a champion of states righs from Mississippi
