Marco Polo and the Mongols

    Marco Polo's father and uncle go to Aisa.

    In 1266 Marco Polo’s father and uncle met Kublai Khan and he was a very hospital host. Kublai Khan had never met Europeans before and he was very interested in everything about Europe. If Kublai hadn’t been so hospital to his guest, then Marco Polo may have never had the chance to see the Mongol Empire.

    Marco Polo, with his father and his uncle, left Italy to go to Asia.

    It was a difficult journey and it took them three and a half years to travel across Europe and Asia to get to Kublai Khan’s original capital Shang-tu.

    The Polos were welcomed by Kublai Khan.

    From 1275-1292 Marco Polo served in Kublai Khan’s court.

    He went on many special missions to China, Burma, and India. He fell in love with the Capital, which was thought to be the most magnificent city in the world.

    Marco Polo was appointed by Kublai Khan to an official of the Privy Council.

    He was also a tax inspector in Yanzhou for three years. He was trusted by Kublai Khan and even though he was not a Mongol, he was accepted into the community.
