Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was the 7th U.S. president and also fought in the War of 1812. Jackson became known for his heroics in all his wars as generals. He signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830. This act is very self-explanatory, saying they moved Native Americans out to federal territory west of the Mississippi River. The result of this act was what we call today "The Trail of Tears." He is the president who created the Democratic Party.

The Alamo
Americans from Texas wanted Independence from Mexico so Stephen F. Austin started a revolution. Famous people in the Alamo was David Crockett, William Travis and Jim Bowie. Most of the soldiers were lawyers, doctors, and farmers. David Crockett had only went to Texas because he had thought the war was over and he needed to get away from Tennessee. The Battle of the Alamo lasted 13 days. Mexico won the battle and destroyed the Alamo.

Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears was the movement or shipment of Indians to a new area where they would live. White men would then take over the land previously owned by Native Americans with most of there belongings still in the homes. More than 4000 Cherokee died while on the 2,200 mile trip. In the final years of travel most Cherokee had to walk the entire time with no wagons to carry food. The winters was the hardest because they had no belongings with them.

Mexican War
First American war that was fought on foreign soil. This war took place during the Manifest Destiny. The war began because the States accepted Texas into the Union. General Zachary Taylor was in charge of the Union and led them to Rio Grande where there was an American fort called Fort Scott. The was started over settling boundaries of a river. Both sides had many causalities from yellow fever and other diseases. -
Mormons
Mormonism is a religion created by Joseph Smith under the influence of God and an angel who told him to find golden plates and translate them to English. There are 3 types of Mormons in today's world. Fundamentalists means that is exactly how you do it and you don't do it any different than that. Polygamy means that you will have more than one wife if you want to get into heaven. They moved around a lot from New York to Missouri to Salt Lake City. -
Joseph Smith
When Joseph Smith was a young teen God visited him and told him to wait on picking his religion out. When he was older an angel visited him and told him to find golden plates and translate them for the perfect religion. The plates were on Hill Cumorah and only he could see them. Smith then called his new religion Mormonism and it is still a religion to this day. Smith was very commited to this religion even when everyone despised him for saying he was a prophet of God. -
Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny was the belief that it was safe to explore the West and other areas less inhabited in the United States. During the Manifest Destiny, many Native Americans were moved around the country to be "tested" for the Wild West. During this period early America was having territory problems and the result of it was the Mexican War. The name Manifest Destiny came from John O'Sullivan, a journalist at the time.

The gold rush was an event that drew many people from around the world and only a few few struck to where they were really rich. -
Donner Party
The Donner Party was an expedition of pioneers and wealthy families moving out west to explore the new and untouched area. A total of 89 people set out on this exploration. The two main families were the Donner's and Reed's. The Donner's was a rich American family while the Reed's were emigrated from Ireland and knew how to do physical labor. The reason the trip did not work out was because of their decision to go through "Hastings Cutoff." All of the Reed family was intact.

Brigham Young
Brigham Young played a leading role in Mormonism to get it were it is today. After the assassination of Joseph Smith, Young took over the Mormons. He thought that they should move and colonized in what is known today as Salt Lake City, Utah. He moved 16,000 Mormons to their new home and became governor of this territory in 1851. Young had a total of 20 wives and 47 children. He allowed women to vote as early as the 1870's for political events. Young was the 2nd president.
