Lewis and Clark/ Sacagawea
The Lewis and Clark Expedition, also know as the Corps of Discovery was the first expedition of Americans that crossed the western United States. Thomas Jefferson was involved in this because he had set up this expedition a little bit after he had made the Louisiana Purchase. This expedition lasted for two years from May 1804 to September 1806. But the whole purpose of this expedition was to explore the Missouri River and the acquired territory. Sacagawea was a women that accompanied them. -
Adams-Onis Treaty
Also called the Transcontinental Treaty was a treaty between the United States and Spain in 1819 that gave Florida to the United States and defined the boundaries between the two countries. The negotiation specifically was between John Quincy Adams and President James Monroe for the US and Spanish minister Luis de Onis y Gonzalez-Vara. -
Webster-Ashburton Treaty
This was a treaty that solved the border issues between the United States and the British North American colonies. This treaty was signed during John Tyler's presidency and it also resolved the Aroostook War as well as other conflicts that came from the Northeast Boundary Dispute. -
Texas Annexation
The "Republic of Texas" became a part of the United States and became the 28th state of the United States. This was made possible because "The Republic of Texas" declared Independence from Mexico on March 2, 1936 from winning the Battle of Alamo and their song of victory was "Remember the Alamo". The Republic of Texas economy shortly after begin to decline. Many people begin to bid to annexate the republic of Texas. But John Tyler decided to bid for more support for years and was successful. -

Mexican-American War (War with Mexico)
This was a war between the United States and Mexico starting from the United States’ annexation of Texas in 1845 and from a dispute over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River or the Rio Grande. At the end of the war the United States was victorious resulting in the United States acquiring more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory that extended westward from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean which also included the city of Santa Ana. -
Mexican Cession
The historical name given to the modern southwestern region of the United Sates that Mexico had gave to the United States through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This was the third largest acquisition of territory in US history. -
Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo
This treaty was officially named " the Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Limits and Settlement between the United States of America and the Mexican Republic. This was a peace treaty signed between the US and Mexico. The negotiation talks were between were between Nicholas Trist, who was the chief clerk of the US State Department who had accompanied General Winfield Scott as a diplomat and was President Polk's representative. But after all of the failed negotiations Trist was able to make it possible. -
Oregon Territory
This settled the Oregon Boundary (Fifty-Four Forty or Fight) between the United States and Britain. As a result British gained full possession of the land north of the 49th parallel and all of Vancouver Island. Where as the United States received all of the territory south of that line. -
Gadsden Purchase
A purchase the United States made through a treaty that was signed by James Gadsden. This purchase was the last territory acquired in the contiguous United States to add a large area to the country. This purchase included lands south of the Gila River and west of the Rio Grande which the U.S. acquired so that it could construct a transcontinental railroad. Also the aim was to restore the border issues between the US and Mexico.
