Manifest Destiny
Manifest destiny was the belief shared by many Americans in the mid 1800's. The belief was that the united states was meant to expand westward to the pacific ocean. The Americans belived that they possed the right as Americans to expand westward. They wanted to spread socialy and politicly. Declaration of independence purpose is that it defined the rights of Americans. -
The 13 colonies
The origanal 13 colonies were the first settlements in the un ited states. Christifer columbus discovered this land in the late 1700's when he was looking for a north west passage that never exsisted. Not much longer people started to settle on the east coast. -
North west territory
This land was gained from the northwest ordanince of 1787. The land that was included was Illinois,Michigan,Indiana,Ohio,Wisconsin and part of Minnesota. The requirements for a territory to become a state is Education,Bill of rights,No slavery,60,000 population and It's own constitution. -
Louisiana purchase
In 1803 president George Washington purchassed the Louisiana territory for 15 million dollars. He bought this land from Napolion Bonapart a army commander for France. -
Adams Onis Treaty
Settlers were upset with indians because they were raiding property and stealing things. Monroe sent Andrew Jackson to the border of florida and he declared war on the indians. They both agreed on an agreement called the Mexican cessesion. -
Texas Annexation
The mexican Gov. promissed that if anybody wanted to settle in Mexico they could bring slaves. They wanted more people so if a war broke out there were more people to help them fight. But the Mexican government broke their promise about bringing slaves after a while. -
Mexican Cession of 1848
The main cause that led to the Mexican American war was dispute over where to put the boundrie and they broke their promise about bringing slaves into Mexico. The treaty that finaly ended the war was called the treaty of Guadalupe. We gained more land also from this war we got Arizona and New Mexico witch increased the size of America alot. This war gained Mexico their independince. -
Gadsden Purchase
They agreed to purchase land under this because they didnt want Mexico to be a part of the U.S. cause if they were then slavery would be legal in America. They paid 10 million for this land and they got Arizona and the southern part of New Mexico. Now they are starting to expand westward. -
Oregon Territory
Canada origanally shared Oregon with America. They signed this treaty to try to avoid a war. California and Alaska were created out of this territorry. -
