WWII divided Korea's Northern (Communist) and Southern (American-occupied) parts. The Korean War began when North Korean Communists invaded Non-Communists South Korea. The United Nations and America decided to help South Korea fight against the North. The US took back the capital of South Korea and defeated the North Korean Army. The Korean War lasted until a Peace treaty was signed at Panmunjom on July 27, 1953. -

The Vietnam War began in 1955 and was also a northern vs. southern battle that was a showcase for the Cold War. More then 3 million people were killed in the Vietnam War. President Nixon withdrew American troops from the war in 1973. In 1975, Communist forces took over, ending the war. -

The Gulf War began on August 2, 1990 and was fought by United Nations forces, led by the US, against Iraq. This began when Iraq invaded Kuwait and international condemnation inside. The war ended on February 27, 1991 when Iraq gave into the UN resolution. -

The War in Afghanistan began October 7, 2001. The US invaded Afghanistan in response to the 9/11 attacks. They wanted to combat action in Afghanistan against Al Qaeda terrorists and their Taliban supporters. The US is still in Afghanistan, and is the US's longest running war. -

The War on Terrorism is a military campaign led by the US and UK. It was to target against Al-Qaeda and other militant organizations with the purpose of eliminating them.The term was first used by President Bush and other high rank US officials. Today, President Obama does not officially use the term, but it is still used in the media and politicians. -

The War in Iraq began in March 20, 2003. The US went to Iraq when the UK said that Iraq had WMD and posed a threat to world safety. The Iraq invasion later led to occupation and eventually killed President Hussein. The troops were withdrew on December 15, 2011.
