Major events and acts of the American Revolution

  • The Albany Congress

    The Albany Congress
    It was a conference between the colonial representatives and the Iroquois
    The colonist sent delegates to the conference to work out plans for joint defense measures and to help cement the loyalty of the Iroquois Confederacy.
    The British rejected it.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar Act reduced the tax per gallon from 6 pence to 3 pence per gallon and that foreign good be taxed like sugar lumber
    It disrupted the colony economy and they didn't want to pay them.
    The British's colony's were hurt badly by the Sugar Act.
    The Sugar Act ended in 1766
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The colonist suffered a constant shortage of currency which they used to conduct trade.
    The colonist felt no way to print their own paper and money in the form of bills of credit to use.
    The British were very uncomfortable with this system of doing things this way.

    The Stamp Act is the granting and giving of different stamp duties.
    The colonist rejected the act.
    The British were in national debt and were taxed so much it created a serious threat of revolt.
  • The Quartering Act

    They could go to anyone's home and stay with out being granted permission and without asking the home owner.
    The British felt they were losing control over american colonies so they made the quartering act so they were able to stay anywhere they wished and get fed and took care without their worries.
    The colonist were very mad and angered at this law and did not want no one staying in their home when they could barely feed their selves and their family's.

    The Declaratory Act was an act that would better secure the dependency of his majesty's dominion in america upon a crown and the parliament of great Britain
    The colonist were mad that he had power and authority over them and everything they owned and over their crops and plantations.
    The British were glad they had the power to do anything they wised and could say anything they wished and wanted.

    the townshend act made taxes on glass,paint,oil,lead,paper, and tea with raising £40,000 a year for administration of the colonies.
    The colonists resurrected.
    The British were granted certain duties in each colony to do.
  • Boston Massacre

    the Boston massacre was a street fight between the British and mobs their was the throwing of snowballs with rocks in them.
    The colonist were mad so they started a campaign.
    The British were defending them selves from the mobs.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act, passed by Parliament on May 10, 1773, would launch the final spark to the revolutionary movement in Boston. The act was not intended to raise revenue in the American colonies, and in fact imposed no new taxes. It was designed to prop up the East India Company which was floundering financially and burdened with eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. This tea was to be shipped directly to the colonies, and sold at a bargain price.

    The colonist had to find another way to get goods.
    The British were glad to get the act passed.

    An act making effectual Provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec.

    The first Continental Congress was in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, until September 5, to October 26, 1774.
    The colonists presented they were united.
    The British had some of the colonies on their side.
  • Edenton tea party

    The Edenton tea party was a protest that women in North Carolina got together in response to the Tea Act and to try to resolve it, passed by the British parliament.
    The colonist protested.
    The British were fed up and got angry.
  • Ride of Paul Revere

    He got the task to ride to Lexington, Massachusetts, to spread the news that regular troops were about to march into the country side of northwest of Boston.
    The British were mad because their cover had been blown and everyone knew.
    The colonist were ready for war because Paul Revere had spread the alarm to them to get ready and arm their selves.

    The British were fighting back at the colonist and the minute men.

    The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting in the spring of 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    The colonist wanted freedom and this would give it to them.
    The British now had to pays taxes they didn't want to.

    Common sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. The plain language that Paine used spoke to common people of america and was the first work to openly ask for independence from Britain.
    The colonist wanted independence from Britain.
    The British didn't want them to separate because then they wouldn't have control over them.
