    Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, which is also near Bombay. His family belonged to the Hindu caste Vaisya.

    When Gandhi was 13 he became married. Also, his dad was a prime minister for some years.
  • Schooling/Studying

    Schooling/Studying
    When Gandhi was 19 he started studying law at the University Collage in London. He was made fun of/stubbed by other students because he was Indian. When studying he found out about the principle of nonviolence in Henry David Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience”. He was also persuaded by John Ruskin’s plea to give up industrialism for the farm life and other things like traditional handicrafts.

    Gandhi returned to India in 1891. He was 22 years old when he returned.

    When Gandhi was uncusseful in Bombay, he decided he could go to South Africa. At Natal he was the so called "colored" lawyer that was admitted to the Supreme Court.
