  • Navigation Acts 1650s

    This act directed trade between England and the colonies. You couldn't use foreign ships or ship certain products outside of England. The outcome was that smuggling became way more common.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Set Appalachian mountains as temporary western boundary for colonies, which prevented fighting. The outcome was it angered people who owned shares in companies and also who had just bought land here.
  • Sugar Act 1764

    Sugar Act 1764
    This act lowered tax on imported molasses, alo let officers seize goods from smugglers. The outcome was it angered people and they thought it iterfered with their English rights.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    Stamp Act 1765
    This Act placed a tax on almost all printed material such as, newspapers, wills, and playing cards. The outcome was the Virginia Assembly passed a resolutuion, urged boycotts and had merchants sign nonimported agreement. Law was repealed in 1766. Also mobs said "No taxation without representation"
  • Declaratory Act 1766

    This act stated Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for British colonies. The outcome was it lead up to the Revolutionary war. Also some people felt it mean't that they would be taxed more but otheres were unsure.
  • Townshend Acts 1767

    Townshend Acts 1767
    Taxes only applied to imported goods such as: glass, tea, paper and paint. The putcome of this Act was it angered colonists. They believed only their representative should tax them. Another boycott and Daughters of Libertyand Sons of Liberty.
  • Tea Act 1773

    Tea Act 1773
    This Act allowed companies a virtual monopoly or sole control of trade for tea in America. It also allowed them to sell directly to shopkeepers and bypass colonial merchants who normally distributed the tea. The outcome was a boycott. This boycott was colonists vowed to stop east India company's ships from unloading. Daughters of liberty also issued a pamphelt declaring that rather thsn part with freedom, "we'll part with our tea."
  • Coercive Acts 1774

    Coercive Acts 1774
    These were harsh lwas intended to punish people of Massachusetts colonists paid for ruined tea. Also closed Boston Harbor and forced Boston to shelter soldier in citizens own homes. The outcome of this Act was instead other colonies sent food and clothing to support Boston, colonists held that Coercive acts violeted rights as English.
  • Quebec Act 1774

    Quebec Act 1774
    This act set up the government for Quebec and gave Quebec area west of Appalachian mountains and north of Ohio RIver. The outcome of this act was provision ignored colonial claims to area, colonists exprssed feelings in their name for new laws--the intolerable acts.
